I had one day to figure out something else to add to my print order in order to get free shipping on a stamp rally card, which means I had to look through recent illustrations for something to print.

I landed on this piece that I drew during plein airpril - but the question was, do I add something on the back?

This poem was one I'd penned at the time I made the illustration; and there was meant to be a separate illustration for the back. The front image, would be paired with part one; the back image, for part two.

But I never ended up making the back image.

To me... the way the back is presented now, it brings up a feeling that's harder to describe. Perhaps it's because autumn's golden hour, itself, is a good analogy for the anticipation of waiting, for that anticipated person.

To anyone that will come across this poem, naturally in the wild, I wonder what they'll make of it. Along with the boyhood illustration from last time, I've half a mind to eventually compile a poetry-art zine.

I didn’t live the boyhood depicted here.

While drawing this image, listening to a playlist called honey jasmine tea, I kept getting choked up; a feeling wouldn’t stop welling up inside me.

It was nostalgia for what never was.

Though I didn’t live the boyhood depicted here, some version of my character has. Which makes me happy, and brings me some solace - that some part of me does hold that bygone, sweltering summer.

honestly… I think there's 100% a good reason to hold to the standard of 'hating accurately'. I think we struggle right now at holding people accountable to an accurate, commensurate, and meaningful degree, and there's nothing more important than that right now in our current societal… situation.

I do hope this is something people can reflect on and take away with them, as I think it will make a huge positive difference for everyone. there's a difference between fanon and fan activities and the real relationships we have with each other and real human beings, of course, but knowing the difference between a narrative we tell ourselves and what actually happened in reality is a distinction that shouldn't ever be understated.
