Nestled in the Bavarian Alps, Berchtesgaden is famous for the majestic Watzmann mountain. With its dramatic peaks, fresh alpine air, and peaceful landscapes, it’s a perfect destination for nature lovers and hikers seeking breathtaking views and serenity.
Today, the US Supreme Court has confirmed that marriage equality is the law of the land.
We cannot let ourselves contentedly assume this fight is over for good, or forget the monumental amount of work still to be done for all our queer and trans siblings—but for now, I hope we in the (US) lgbtqia+ community and our hard-working allies can allow ourselves a moment of relief.

Also while I’m on my “please have more neutral education around pregnancy and birth” kick something I think NEEDS to be normalized is pregnancy reduction
If you don’t know what that is, it’s a procedure that reduces the number of fetuses in a pregnancy. For example, triplets down to twins, twins down to a singleton, etc.
It’s presented as a tragic last resort only valid in the most painful medical circumstances, but I FULLY believe it should be destigmatized and presented as a normal option during pregnancy. The reality is, not everyone wants twins! Some people only want one child and find out they’re having twins when they are not mentally, or financially, ready to parent more than one child and they should know they can reduce their pregnancy. Many doctors won’t even offer it without “medical need” with multiples being treated as a “oh surprise!” Thing and not something that can genuinely be very hard
I’ve decided I never want to carry more than two fetuses at a time, and honestly, two is pushing it. It’s a huge strain on the body. It could damage my health, and the health of the fetuses. If I found out I was expecting triplets (god forbid) I would get the pregnancy reduced, and I’ve been judged for saying that. To me, that’s ridiculous. It needs to be an option, and it needs to be presented in a neutral way in ALL circumstances that it may apply, not only when a provider decides it’s “medically acceptable”
This is really, really important for understanding IVF.
Because it's difficult to prepare a body for pregnancy and it's difficult to obtain the ova to make embryos, doctors will often insert a ton of embryos into the uterus in hopes that one sticks. In IVF, you're hoping for at least one, but often you'll get twins or triplets.
If you remember Natalie Suleman, aka Octomom, she had IVF and refused pregnancy reduction. That's how she carried eight fetuses. It was such a big deal because humans usually can't do that safely. As far as I know, she's the only case of someone having octuplets where all eight survived. There was a lot of controversy about whether fewer embryos should have been tried or if she should have agreed to a pregnancy reduction ahead of time.
As artyphex said, carrying multiples is dangerous. Hell, regular pregnancy is dangerous. People need to know that reduction is an option and often, it really is the safest one.
THRUD
Thrud (Þrúðr), whose name means “Strength,” was the daughter of Thor and Sif. She was both a goddess and a Valkyrie, one of Odin’s warrior maidens who guided fallen heroes to Valhalla. Thrud had a half-brother, Ullr, Sif’s son from a previous relationship, as well as two other half-brothers : Magni, whose mother was Jarnsaxa, and Modi, whose maternal lineage remains unknown.
One of the most well-known tales involving Thrud is the story of the dwarf Alvis. Alvis, a master craftsman, sought to marry her. However, Thor, unwilling to see his daughter wed to a dwarf, devised a clever trick. He challenged Alvis to prove his wisdom by answering a series of riddles throughout the night. The dwarf eagerly participated, unaware of Thor’s true intentions. By the time he had answered all the questions, the sun rose, and as dwarves cannot survive daylight, Alvis was turned to stone. This myth highlights Thor’s protective nature as a father and his determination to control Thrud’s fate. However, the sources do not record her own thoughts on the matter, leaving her true feelings about the marriage and Alvis’ fate a mystery.

The Valkyries
The Valkyries were formidable warrior maidens, tasked with selecting fallen warriors from the battlefield and guiding them to Valhalla. Many were of royal birth before becoming Valkyries, and some, like Brunhild and Svafa, fell in love with mortal heroes. They could transform into swans using magical skins, which men sometimes tried to steal to claim them as wives. Certain goddesses, such as Freyja, Eir and Sigyn, were associated with them, though their names do not appear in traditional Valkyrie lists. Among the most famous Valkyries were Skuld (one of the Norns), Gunnr, Hildr, Olrun and Thrud, the daughter of Thor.

Bestla
Bestla is the mother of Odin, Vili, and Vé. She was the daughter of the giant Bölþorn and the wife of Borr. Though little is recorded about her directly, her lineage connects her to the ancient and mystical forces of the giants. Bestla also had a brother, from whom Odin is said to have learned nine magical songs : some scholars speculate this brother may have been Mimir, the wise being associated with knowledge and the Well of Wisdom.

SVAFA
Svafa was a Valkyrie, the daughter of King Eylimi and aunt of Sigurd the dragon slayer. One day, the warrior Helgi saw her on the battlefield and called her the most beautiful of all Valkyries. He fell in love instantly, and when they met, she bestowed upon him his name : Helgi. With her love and guidance, he became a mighty warrior, and they were married.
But fate was cruel. Álfr, the son of King Hróðmar, sought revenge for his father and challenged Helgi to a holmgang at Sigarsvoll. A troll woman’s curse sealed his fate : he was mortally wounded and Álfr emerged victorious. Before dying, Helgi sent for Svafa, and with his last breath, he asked her to wed his brother Heðinn. Though parted by death, their love endured beyond lifetimes. Reborn as Helgi Hundingsbane and Sigrún, and later as Helgi Haddingjaskati and Kara, they found each other again and again, bound by fate and love.

BRUNHILD
Brunhild, one of the most famous Valkyries, appears in The Völsunga Saga and various Norse poems. She was a warrior maiden serving Odin, but as punishment for defying his will, she was stripped of her Valkyrie status and placed in an enchanted sleep, surrounded by a ring of fire where only a hero worthy of her love could awaken her.
Sigurd, the legendary dragon-slayer, braved the flames and woke Brunhild. They pledged themselves to each other, but fate intervened. Through deception and magic, Sigurd was tricked into marrying Gudrun, while her brother, Gunnar, claimed Brunhild. When Brunhild learnt of his betrayal, her heartbreak turned to fury. She orchestrated Sigurd’s murder, but upon his death, her grief consumed her. She threw herself onto his funeral pyre, choosing to join him in death.
Her tragic story, immortalized in Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen, echoes the Norse themes of love, fate, and doom.
