Participants run into the cold waters of Lake Ontario on Feb. 14, 2016 as part of Polar Plunge, an annual event that raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics New York. Temperatures were below 15 degrees fahrenheit and there was a subzero windchill.

Jan. 5, 2016. Children cool off in the water play feature at the Far East Organization Children's Garden on a 91 degree day in Singapore. The Water Play Area features water streaming out of rotating spines to resembles leaves, creating a "forest" of reeds that dance along to familiar tunes like Frozen's "Let It Go" and other Disney classics like "The Lion King" and "Beauty and The Beast."

Jan. 4, 2016. This 138 foot "Cloud Mountain" is part of the "Cloud Forest" glass biome at the Gardens by the Bay, a 250 acre nature park located in central Singapore. The "Cloud Forest" is a cooled conservatory that replicates the cool, moist conditions found in tropical mountain regions between 3,300 feet and 9,800 feet above sea level in South-East Asia, Middle-, and South America. The mountain showcases the unique biodiversity and geology that exists in only 1% of the global woodland and the threats this fast-disappearing environment faces. #singapore #gardensbythebay #cloudforest #environment #environmentalist #garden #forest #sustainability #explore

Jan. 3, 2016. The escalators were packed at Vivo City, the largest mall in Singapore, for all the post-holiday sales. The mall has 1,500,000 square feet of gross floor area and 1,040,000 square feet of retail space including a Sky Park, the largest cinema with 15 screens, spas, restaurants, and dance clubs. Mapletree Investments, a subsidiary of Temasek Holdings, is the developer of the S$417 million complex. #singapore #travel #shopping #vivocity #explore

This 156-year-old garden covers 183 acres featuring over 600,000 botanical specimens, including the world's largest orchid display with over 60,000 plants and orchids. December 31, 2015. Baggage Claim Belt 42, Singapore Changi Airport. When you arrive, there is a noticeable difference in the air quality because of all the vegetation and plants indoors. It's really wonderful after 27 hours of breathing dry airplane air.

Nov. 12, 2015. I drive along this road, the Betsy Kerrison Parkway, for a half hour to get to Kiawah Island where my family has a beach house in South Carolina. This is my favorite part of the 12-hour drive from New Jersey. There's something so beautiful about the southern oak trees and the way the long branches canopy the road allowing only small pockets of shimmering sunlight. #kiawah #kiawahisland #johnsisland #southcarolina #sc #southern #oak #tree #trees #slowmotion

In 2008, my family and I traveled to Singapore for the first time after my dad moved there to pursue a job in pharmaceuticals. Seven years later, I can finally say that he will be returning to the United States for good.
