Here are some of the little collages that went into my most recent series of artists books. Each book has four pop up sheds on a theme…Shops in Sheds, Boat Sheds, Tin Roof Sheds and so on. I really did strain my eyes for these as each of the sheds is only about 5 cm wide. They are now available at The Tin Shed Gallery in Mull.
I have just finished a series of books with moving collages of sheds. I have been straining my eyesight to make tiny shovels, mini wheelbarrows and wee wellies. These will be part of the exhibition Shed, held at The Tin Shed Gallery in Mull alongside paintings by Helen Moore and ceramics by Charlotte Mellis.
Over the last few weeks I’ve been working on a series of mini collages that I will turn into a set of pop up artists’ books, all about sheds. Stay tuned to see how they progress.
Someone asked me what I was drawn to recently, in a gallery. For me it’s always the tactile items, things I can pick up and hold and touch. I think that why I like working small a lot of the time and why I love making books and little papier mâché sculptures. It’s the process of working with my hands and the materials but also creating a finished object that someone can hold.
I was recently at the Artists Bookmarket in Edinburgh and it was such a great weekend. Thanks to everyone who came past to chat…great to put some faces to some booky names! Also had a lovely time with my table mate, Jade Stout who came with her beautifully painted artists books.
I love picking up old books in the charity shop and breathing new life into them. This series of books all have vintage illustrations of birds on the covers, pockets inside with mini books and little bits of paper ephemera scattered throughout.
Another book I have made that will be coming with me to the Artists Bookmarket in Edinburgh. For a long time I have wanted my artwork to move and this is just the beginning.
Here’s one of the artists books I’ve been working on. Combining pop up techniques with miniature collage is my new favourite thing.
I have recently been teaching myself some pop up techniques for a series of mini artists books I’m making. These ones will have little sheds and houses on each page that move slightly when you open the pages. As usual, I am spending MANY hours on these and creating tiny unique collages on each page.
I’ve been adding some new little houses to my shop over the weekend.
