honestly, the transition from fanfic reader to fanfic writer is wild. When I was just reading, I appreciated the words, sure, but I never knew the struggle over those words. Because every word is carefully placed and put in the right order and so much care is put into the work.

I also never used to comment. I thought I would be bothering the writer, especially if the work was already complete. I would always leave kudos, but never a comment.

That has all changed since I became a writer though. I comment on everything I like even a little bit, because comments truly keep writers alive. The value of comments is lost somewhat on the reader, I think. Because whereas published authors get motivation to write through money, there isn’t that much motive to write fanfics other than personal fulfilment. And comments.

To a fanfic writer, even the smallest comment or thought is so fucking valuable. Even if you just comment “YES!” on a chapter, it means something.

Recently I got a comment that was about 100 words long. Even now I am still smiling about it, because I got 100 words of emotional response out of someone, and that is amazing!!! And now, I’m more motivated than ever to continue writing.

So don’t underestimate the power of a comment.
