Despite intense pressure from corporate leadership, OfficeMax Marketing Director Mike Washburn is still struggling to make staplers sexy and conversational.

Stats Pr0n of the Day: U.S. Map of Hate Speech on Twitter

Since June 2012, Dr. Monica Stevens of Humboldt State University in California has been mapping more than 150,000 geotagged tweets that contain homophobic, racist or abliest language. The result is the Geography of Hate, an interactive map of the U.S. which reveals the hotspots of “hate tweets” across the country. A deeper analysis of the project is available at Floating Sheep.

Disks moving in a square grid trace out an interesting pattern as they pass over a rotating wheel.  Some traces appear to go towards the centre only to be flung back out, in some cases forming a sharp corner. A few of the traces form loops, as if there was also a force acting sideways rather than outwards.  This demonstrates how the Centrifugal and Coriolis ‘forces’ appear to affect the motion of objects in a rotating frame. [making of video (new)] [more] [code]
