Vampires vs Zombies
Die Bold Comics is proud to announce our next BIG comic! Vampires vs Zombies with art by the great Jorge Luis Gabotto. Our goal is to start the Kickstarter for it on July 1st. The comic will be complete when we launch the Kickstarter. Between now and then, we will drop some teasers. You can leave your email in the comments section on my Substack to be notified at launch. https://jholland.substack.com/p/vampires-vs-zombies
What’s up? We’re still trying to fund the first issue of Akemi, and frankly, between you and me, we’re doing terribly! I really hate to say it. I was so excited for this Crowdfunder. I LOVE Akemi. I think it’s some of the best writing I’ve done, and the art is so amazing by Jorge Luis Gabotto! I know not everything does great, but I really don’t understand why it’s doing so badly. We have so many people liking it and saying good things about it, but it just hasn’t transferred into pledges. But we’re not giving up! And that’s why I’m here, sending this out to everyone on my email list again and hoping some of you will come through.
As a BONUS for backing Akemi we’re going to offer a FREE print ashcan copy of A Girl and Her Dog, written by me and drawn by Hernan Gonzalez. It’s hard to pick a favorite of all the things I’ve done, and I would say Akemi right now, but one comic I always go to, what I think may be some of my best writing ever, is A Girl and Her Dog.
Jenny Blake (formerly known as Tony Isabella), creator of Black Lightning for DC Comics, Misty Knight and Tigra for Marvel Comics, said this about A Girl and Her Dog:
“Writer John Holland sent me several of his comics. I hope to get to the others soon, but the one I definitely want to recommend to you is A Girl and Her Dog [Diebold Comics; $10], a moving love letter to the dogs we love and who love us back. Drawn by Hernan Gonzalez, the girl is Evie, and, in time-tossed bits and pieces, we see her life from age 15 to 84. The dog is her Max, who is there for all the important moments of her life, even after his life has ended. This goddamn comic book made me cry because it is happy and life-affirming and sad and speaks of the power of love even in the face of death. When that one mainstream publishing house publishes its annual and usually antsy-fartsy bogus collection of the best comics of 2021, I hope it gives the book a shred of legitimacy by including A Girl and Her Dog.”
So it’s not just me saying how good I think this comic is.
And because I believe so much in Akemi I’m offering an ashcan print of A Girl and Her Dog. An ashcan is a smaller size, but otherwise it’s the complete comic. For every person that pledges to Akemi we’re going to add in a FREE ashcan of A Girl and Her Dog.
You’re getting two comics for the price of one! What a deal! And the copies are already printed, so there will not be any extra wait for the copy of A Girl and Her Dog. They’ll be in the same mail as your copy of Akemi.
And to talk a little about Akemi. Remember, this comic is already 100% done. Completely written, drawn, and colored! All for one low price of $10 a copy.
“After escaping the father who raised her as an assassin, young Akemi flees Japan for the U.S., where she’s recruited into the Order of Innocent Blood—an underground force battling demons and monsters that demand she confront the darkness she was trained to serve.”
Akemi is 16 years old, fighting alongside those who practice a religion that is not her own, and having to figure out where she belongs now after trying to put the darkness she created for her Father.
We’re working on the second issue of Akemi now. It’s already half done, writing and art. The goal is to have it done by the end of the month, close to the end date of this campaign. Hopefully, if this campaign succeeds, we’ll open the next one for the second issue. We want to bring this comic to you on a regular basis. I’m not fool enough to say monthly, but we’re shooting for bi-monthly at the latest. So, along with the first issue, we’re promising you a regular ongoing comic. So if you like Akemi, and I know you will, you’ll have stories to read on a regular, ongoing basis!
If you’re on my mailing list, you’ve probably picked up the free issue of Marie Laveau I offer at conventions, or maybe you’ve bought a copy of Alma or Robot Sex or one of the other many comics I offer at my table. If you liked what you read, if you think I write a pretty decent comic, then please give us a chance with Akemi. I really think you’ll like it. There’s a lot of action, some subtext, great characterization, and some AMAZING ART!

AKEMI on FUND MY COMIC
Please go check us out and back our campaign. We aren't having a very good campaign and would appreciate all the help we can get. This comic is 100% complete and after the campaign ends the only wait will be to get in printed! The second issue is currently in production and the plan is to have it finished by the end of March so we can crowdfund it! We're in this for the long haul. Thanks!
Creating Comics community
Just a remind for everyone to check out the Creating Comics Community I created. I hope to make this a place for creators to talk about what works for them and more importantly a place that those wanting to start can find as a place to learn and grow.
A community about creating comic books. Let's talk about creating. How do you create a comic? Where do you get your ideas? What's a scrip
I just started a Tumblr called CREATING COMICS. I'm hoping it can be a place we can all get together and talk about creating comics and maybe help each other. Go check it out. https://www.tumblr.com/communities/creating-comic-books
Akemi on Fund My Comic
Akemi #1 is live on Fund My Comic!
“After escaping the father who raised her as an assassin, young Akemi flees Japan for the U.S., where she’s recruited into the Order of Innocent Blood—an underground force battling demons and monsters that demand she confront the darkness she was trained to serve.”
Akemi is created and written by me and drawn by Jorge Luis Gabotto.
Please go check it out and back it. The first issue is 100% complete so there is no risk. The plan is to have the second issue done or close to done by the time the campaign is over so we can launch the second issue fairly quick. We're looking at the most a bi-monthly schedule for the series.

I want to show another item you can get on the Alma Kickstarter. This is a character you won't even see in the first issue. She makes her appearance at the end of the second issue. Alma's granddaughter Katie. She's 15 and comes to live with her Grandmother. There's a of backstory there. Also, it raises the question, was Katie supposed to have been the next Champion instead of her Grandmother?

One last push for more backers tonight. We are only $256 away from our next Milestone goal. When we reach $1,800 everyone gets a copy of the comic with this amazing cover by Javi Laparra! So let's make it happen before tomorrow! Isn't this cover amazing?
