The top picture is the first 18 matchups (beers 1-32) from 2011 in order of how we tasted them. The bottom picture is my notes on the beers, with a rating of 1-5 given. I rated beyond the first 18 matchups, but don't have a guide to what those matchups were. Keep in mind that Nick, Chase, and myself were given these beers blindly, so it's impressive how spot on my notes were, in retrospect...

Despite the handwriting, we can see that I only assigned a perfect 5 rating to 3 beers in the first round: Tyranena Bitter Woman (an 8 seed that crushed 9 seed Flying Dog Snakedog IPA), Lakefront's Fixed Gear (a 6 seed that lost to 11 seed Central Waters Red Ale over my protests), and then the eventual winner: #6 seed Troi Pistoles from Unibroue.

I think all beers that were eliminated in the first round in 2011 will not be brought back for this year's bracket. Even though Fixed Gear remains my favorite beer of all time.

Here is the 2011 Beer Bracket, with winners in orange highlights. The winner was Troi Pistoles, from Unibroue (Canada). Runner up was Ale Asylum's Hopalicious (Madison, WI). Seeds went 1-6 and we had two regions.

1 note: Chase's house did not have Boxer Light, for some inexplicable reason that still is unknown. We had to substitute in Rolling Rock, for the 15 seed that faced Hoegarden on the bottom region...and Nick liked the Rock.
