Warm Enough for Two - Steve Harrington
Modern AU where Steve Harrington is the sweetest, most protective boyfriend ever.
⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻⸻
The rain started out of nowhere.
Not a full-on storm, just that annoying drizzle that somehow still soaks everything and leaves the whole street smelling like wet pavement.
When you stepped out of the building, the first thing you noticed was a familiar blue car parked right in front.
Steve’s car.
Inside, Steve Harrington was leaning over the steering wheel, scrolling on his phone… until he looked up and saw you.
His whole face lit up.
He immediately got out of the car and jogged over through the rain.
“Hey— I told you to wait for me,” he said, but he didn’t sound annoyed. More like… worried.
“I was literally just gonna walk two blocks.”
“Two blocks in the rain,” he shot back.
Before you could argue, Steve was already pulling off his jacket.
“Steve, don’t—”
Too late.
He draped it over your shoulders, adjusting it so it sat properly around you. The jacket was still warm.
“There,” he said, satisfied.
“Now you’re gonna get soaked.”
“I’ll survive.”
“Steve.”
He just shrugged, giving you that crooked little smile.
“I like taking care of you. Just let me.”
That caught you off guard a little.
For a second, neither of you said anything while the rain kept falling around you.
Then Steve noticed you shiver.
“Hey…,” he murmured softly.
Without really thinking about it, he stepped closer and wrapped his arms around you.
It felt natural. Warm. Like it was the most normal thing in the world.
Your face ended up pressed against his chest.
Steve gently rested his chin on top of your head.
“You’re freezing,” he said quietly.
“I’m fine.”
“That is absolutely not ‘fine.’”
His arms tightened a little around you, rubbing slow circles on your back to warm you up.
And honestly… he didn’t seem in any hurry to let go.
If anything, he looked perfectly happy just standing there.
“Steve,” you mumbled after a moment.
“Yeah?”
“People are staring.”
“Let ’em stare.”
“Steve.”
“What?” he said, feigning innocence. “I’m preventing hypothermia.”
You nudged his chest lightly, even though you didn’t actually pull away.
Steve laughed softly.
“C’mon,” he said after a moment. “Before the rain gets worse.”
He walked you over to the car, but right before opening the door he paused.
“Hold up.”
“What now?”
Steve frowned slightly when he saw a wet strand of hair stuck to your cheek. Carefully, he tucked it behind your ear.
The gesture was so gentle you stayed completely still.
His fingers lingered for a second longer than necessary.
Steve looked at you.
“You look cute in the rain.”
“I look soaked.”
“Yeah,” he said, smiling a little. “Still cute though.”
You felt your cheeks warm up.
Steve definitely noticed, because his grin widened.
“Oh wait,” he said suddenly.
“What?”
He leaned down a little—
—and pressed a soft kiss to your forehead.
Quick. Sweet.
But when he pulled back, he was smiling in that slightly shy way he had.
“That was because you were shivering,” he explained.
“Oh really?”
“Yeah. It’s, uh… medical.”
“Steve.”
“Yeah?”
“That’s not medical.”
He opened the car door for you.
“Well,” he shrugged, “pretty sure it still worked.”
Right before you got in, Steve stepped a little closer again.
This time his hand found yours.
He laced his fingers with yours naturally, like he’d done it a hundred times before.
His thumb started tracing soft little circles over your hand.
“Just… text me when you get home, okay?” he said quietly.
“Steve, I live ten minutes away.”
“I know.”
“Then relax.”
Steve shook his head.
“Can’t.”
“Why?”
He looked at you with that soft expression he always got—half fond, half worried.
“Because I care about you. Like… a lot.”
The silence after that wasn’t awkward.
Steve squeezed your hand gently.
“Also,” he added with a small grin, “I gotta make sure you get home safe so I can hug you again tomorrow.”
