Business Trip: Pt 50 (Finale) - Endgame
Nayeon did her best to keep you from being on-site.
“There’s no practical reason why you should be there,” Nayeon says with a frown as she finishes adjusting the velcro straps of her bulky bulletproof vest. “Jihyo and I will be there. Tokyo PD will be waiting downstairs. We have enough people. As soon as I confirm Blackpink is there, I’ll detain them until the police show up to secure the site. They’re not getting away.”
“I’ve been working towards this for too long to not be there at the end of it,” you state, matter-of-factly. You raise your arms to allow Jihyo, who is standing next to you, to finish strapping on a kevlar vest around your chest. When she is done, she hands you a handheld radio and its accompanying earpiece.
“We don’t know what could happen,” Nayeon continues, hands on her hips. “They could be carrying. It might get rough. I’m going to have enough on my plate with Blackpink to worry about you getting hurt.”
“I’m a big boy, Nayeon,” you state as you slip the radio into one of the vest’s pouches and begin to guide the earpiece’s cable through your clothing. “I can take care of myself.”
Nayeon is unconvinced, and her frown only deepens. Seeing that nothing she could say would change your mind, she decides to seek reinforcement from the only other person in the hotel room your team had been using as a makeshift equipment locker.
“Jihyo, tell him it’s dangerous and he should stay in the van with you and the others,” she pleads, a hint of exasperation in her tone.
Jihyo gives you one last look from head to toe as you finish setting up the earpiece. She reaches for the radio in your vest and turns it on, adjusting the channel knob to the correct frequency before sending a few clicks with her own radio to ensure you heard them in your earpiece. You give her a thumbs up.
“If I were him, I’d want to be there too,” she admits, much to Nayeon’s chagrin. She catches your gaze, and you find a shared understanding in the small smile on her lips.
Nayeon sighs in defeat at Jihyo’s admission before shooting you one last look.
“Please stay out of sight. And if anything happens, keep your fucking head down.”
With one last scowl Nayeon turns to leave, only to be interrupted by the sudden appearance of Momo. The two spend a split second staring daggers at each other before Nayeon pushes her way past the Japanese woman.
Momo glares after the officer before turning to you. She notices your vest and the radio in your ear. Her eyes grow wide as the realization of your intentions dawns on her.
“He’s not going in there alone,” she states to Jihyo, before stepping past the both of you to grab another vest off the rack.
