Im going through the reigns of Roman Emperors and jfc it’s either “rule: ~20 years in relative peace” or “rule: 3 months and 2 days. Stabbed to death by praetorian guard”, there’s practically no middle ground.
We can refer to anything that doesn’t require horses to work as being horseless. The horseless carriage. The horseless pencil. The horseless laptop. The Horseless Large Hadron Collider.
This is exactly my stupid sense of humour, I have been laughing for five minutes.
I die a little inside every time someone says history is boring. History is one long, epic adventure with battles to be fought, royal scandals to be gossiped about, human rights to be protected. It can be comic and tragic, and it exhibits both the very best and the very worst of human nature. History is all about seemingly ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and that is why we all want to be remembered by it.
guys I actually shed a tear

ok im doing a race of men etymology gifset and boromir means “steadfast jewel” in sindarin and poor fuckin faramirs name means “sufficient jewel”
denethor just staring at his baby like, well he’ll do i GUESS
I know you said “a race of men etymology gifset”, but just wait until you get to the descendants of Finwë.
Well there’s Finwë himself, right? His name, like with Ingwë, Olwë, and Elwë (the four who were taken to see Valinor and tell about it to their brethren later) consists of a stem and the ‘-wë’ suffix, which descends from an archaic word for ‘person’. ‘finë’ means ‘a hair’, ‘findë‘ means ‘hair, especially on the head’, and ‘finda’ means ‘-haired; having hair’.
In old quenya, ‘Finwë‘ means Hairy Person.
His firstborn son’s name is Kurufinwë, Skilled Hairy Person, more commonly known by his mother-name Fëanáro (Spirit of Fire, with indication that the fire is red afair). Dude had seven sons. Sindarin names in the brackets.
Nelyafinwë, Third Hairy Person (Maedhros)
Kanafinwë, Strong-Voiced Hairy Person (Maglor)
Turkafinwë, Powerful-In-Body Hairy Person (Celegorm)
Kurufinwë, Skilled Hairy Person… again. Yes, his father gave him his own name. (Curufin)
Morifinwë, Dark Hairy Person (Caranthir)
Pityafinwë, Small Hairy Person (Amrod)
Telufinwë, Last Hairy Person (Amras)
The sixth and the seventh were twins. I imagine Feanor’s wife gave birth to them and just went ENOUGH, NO MORE.
This has been a PSA in case you wanted the epic tale ruined forever.

Random happy Pacific Rim thought:
I love how the movie is explicit that you can be drift compatible with more than one person. I’m sure Raleigh and Mako fight very differently than Raleigh and Yancy. And there’s no hierarchy, really—I mean, Yancy’s death had nothing to do with their drift compatibility or lack thereof or them not being a sensational team. There are different relationships in your life that, when the two (or three, canonically, and probably even more) of you are together you create and accomplish so much. Drift compatibility is not one true love. It is not necessarily platonic or familial or romantic. It’s about creative energy between people. That’s really kind of awesome now that I think about it.
