ARYANA LAJANI.

Painting in the park, what could go wrong? That was the mindset Arya had as she was setting up her easel, canvas, and wide array of paints. Her artistic vibes were going hard, and she was ready to make something pretty. But naturally, as she was almost done setting up, a soccer ball came out of nowhere, bouncing into her supplies. Different colours of paint splattered all over her, and she sighed. She picked up the ball and tossed it back in the direction it came from before looking at herself. “Yup, this is fine. All fine. We’re good. Not quite the art piece I was aiming for. Think I should just rub around on the canvas and see what comes from that?”

“I think it kind of looks abstract,” Jolie commented offhandedly, always happy to offer her opinion, regardless of if the person actually wanted to hear it or not. “Jackson Pollock built an entire career around works of art like this.” It was one of the brunette’s favorite things about creating art, no matter the technique, there weren’t any rules about what you could or could not do; the world was your oyster. “It’s like Bob Ross said: there are no mistakes, only happy accidents. And who are we to question the words of the late, great Bob Ross?”

TYLER REDFIELD.

“Stupid fucking cups.” One would assume that Tyler simply hadn’t had enough coffee yet, when, in reality, he really was just that grumpy. Taking another sip, the man wanted to enjoy the coffee, yet he couldn’t help but focus on the ridiculousness that was the size of the damned cup. “Who the fuck drinks like that? “What’s the point of cups that contain a single fucking sip? And you can’t even hold it comfortably.” He continued to rant, more to himself than those near him, as he finished the cup, immediately craving for another one.

“Have you considered just... ordering a larger cup?” Jolie’s brow raised as she stared down at her own to go cup filled with five shots of espresso over ice because that was the only way the brunette found herself capable of making it through the day. “Though it is kind of hilarious watching your giant hand trying to keep a grip on that teeny little cup. You look like you’re about two seconds away from ‘hulk smashing’ it onto the floor.”

A contented look rested upon her features as she turned the page, not quiet a smile yet happy all the same as her hand gripped tightly to her book. Those thick pages folded in half at the spine as she stood beneath the warmth of that mid day sun. The sound of water crashing against the shore, lapping coolly against her calves a comfort as she slowly paced. Back and forth. Back and forth. Perhaps she looked odd, fully clothed within the water. Wrightsville Beach a place she was very quickly growing to love. Rose’s gaze devoured the words that stood before her as she continued in her slow wading. Jeans rolled to her knees, and sunglasses perched upon her nose—she smelled of sage and sunscreen. A scent that in itself made her smile, for despite herself it reminded her of home. Of childhood.

Perhaps she looked like a child—not like the boisterous children that swam and played just beyond her reach. But childish. Young. A girl in one of her father’s t-shirts—lost in a story. 

There was something about the beach and the morning sun that made it easy for Jolie to pry herself from bed and make the early trek over to Wrightsville Beach. The lighting was perfect for photographs and despite a majority of Jolie’s photography taking place on the UNC Wilmington campus, she liked taking as many opportunities that she could to take a few shots that didn’t involve asking students to pose with their textbooks. She had managed a few shots before the early morning beach crowd began to make their way onto the sand and with nothing to do for the rest of the day, Jolie had brought a blanket along with the intention of spending a day relaxing in the sun. The brunette hadn’t been entirely sure how long she’d been baking under the sun when she looked up and noticed a girl standing a few yards away, feet in the water and book in her hand. Jolie stood up quickly, grabbing for her camera as she made her way over to the girl. “Excuse me?” Jolie called out, waving her hand back and forth in an effort to get the woman’s attention. “This is going to sound weird, but would be okay if I took your picture?”

LOCATION: The Copper Penny, Downtown

“Well, that was the longest fucking drive of my life.” Isaac huffed out, setting his duffle bag filled with all of his worldly possessions to the ground as he took the empty bar stool. “I’ll take, like, two beers and…” pausing, he glanced around looking for some sort of menu before falling short and simply asking the person sat beside him. “What’s good here?” 

“Oh, what? Wait, are you asking me?” It took a double take on Jolie’s end before she was able to piece together that they were directing their words toward her. Unfortunately for them, Jolie was a bit immersed in her phone; tapping away on the glass screen while off the clock. Her need to check social media had only gone up through her time at UNC and it wasn’t exactly a healthy quality to have—but hey, it came with the job, so. “Damn, that’s hard question to answer. Cause see, you got very few options that won’t leave you feeling like crap the next day. If you want to be safe, go with the truffle fries, not loaded. Or, if you’re like me and enjoy dessert before dinner, you can get by with the pizookie’s. Especially the cookies ‘n cream one.”

“When you said you had a surprise, I didn’t think it involved basically kidnapping me,” she protested half-heartedly. “Is the hand-blindfold necessary? I promise I won’t open them until you give me the go ahead.”

“Is it kidnapping though? Is it? Because I would call this one friend doing something incredibly cool and nice for another—and if you’re hoping to see what I have in store for you then I suggest you play along, missy.” Jolie was trying to be playful in her tone. She was really only trying to add to the effect when in reality, what she had planned, didn’t exactly need this sort of lucrative and elaborate charade. All the woman had put together was a new meal she picked up off of social media and well, Kelsey got to be her first victim. “Alright, now before you tell me that my display is absolutely atrocious, please keep in mind that we are friends and I really tried here, alright?” And with that, Jolie pulled off the blind fold to reveal her kitchen island covered in her attempt of a cool Pinterest meal—one she was hoping to use for her social media account.
