Kiddo was a bad sign. Kiddo was worse than anything else he was called in his entire life. He didn’t get called kiddo in heated moments or in light, breezy ones either – there were other things reserved from him in those times. No, there was something terrible and serious about the look on his dad’s face, and he’s seen something akin to it before.
It did not bode well for Jughead Jones.
But suddenly things were turning again, blind sided in a way that only his father could do. Brows shot up, eyes locked on the older Jones with alarm and apprehension. What could he possibly have to say about Alice that required a preempting of kiddo.
“… Kill the Rocky Horror dramatic pause, dad. What about her?”
“ i’m sorry, did you just tell me to kill the dramatic pause? have you met me? you’re essentially asking me to stop existing all together, thanks. ”
fp quipped back, fatherly smirk coming to play. so maybe it was going to be an awkward talk, but hey! at least it wasn’t one that had to be given in a jail, bars keeping one another oceans away. granted, did fp truly want to be right there during that talk? absolutely not.
but he didn’t necessarily want to be right there for this one, either. might as well start with the reassurance.
“ now i love your mother. i’ve never loved anyone the way i love her. it doesn’t matter if she lives here or is off making rounds in romania.. i love her, alright? ”
he starts and he realizes that this was probably not the best place to start. he cringes. he tries again.
“ but your mother was not always a part of my life. not... exactly. i mean, you know. she was always in my heart, stirring around, waiting for the right moment, but. you know. as i’m sure you assumed... other’s came before. before, you know, i was... saved by your mom. and one of them.... was alice cooper. ”
the gulp, for once, was not dramatic.
