Plus, I’m reflecting a lot on being a mom at work coming back from maternity leave for the second time in my career, so re-reading this is like reading a letter from my past self.

A Functional Democracy’s A Beginner’s Guide to Local Government launch party was a huge success. I got to interview two City Council members and we brought awareness to voter turnout with some rad interactive infographical sculptures. Props to my co-creators Hal Wuertz and Amy Stansbury.

I finally got around to presenting my research on design thinking adoption at this year’s O’Reilly Design conference in San Francisco! I swear talked to a packed room, but this was the only photo evidence I could find of my attendance, which I’m pretty sure is me eating a tiny bread bowl filled with chowder hidden in the back corner. Against the evidence of the contrary I actually met a lot of cool people and my only regret is I didn’t eat another bread bowl.

Had the honor and pleasure to design and host another workshop with the Cooper Hewitt—this time with IBM Distinguished Designer Adam Cutler! We prompted university students to think about how they might solve human centered problems for people riding NYC public transit using cognitive systems. Bonus: I learned what cognitive systems can do! Thanks as always to CH, and the student participants.

Cooper Hewitt collaborated with IBM to host a workshop for college students that explored tools to meet social, economic, and climate change challenges.

Led an awesome workshop for some sharp university students with some magical people from Cooper Hewitt (Susannah Brown = amazing), IBM Studios NYC, as well as Red Hook Wifi and Farm Hack.
