Drugs won’t make you do anything you don’t want to do in the first place. If you tell someone you love them when you are on drugs, you probably do love that person.

There’s a brief moment when you first wake up where you have no memories, a blissful blank slate, a happy emptiness, but it doesn’t last long and you remember exactly where you are and what you are trying to forget.

“In need of a refreshment? I could always drown you in the sea.” Josephine suggested, her expression giving away absolutely nothing as she eyed the stranger blankly.
“I heard pools are more refreshing. Any chance we can change the location a bit?” he said assuming that she was being sarcastic. With six elder siblings, it was hard for him to take a statement like hers even remotely seriously, even if her expression could be interpreted differently.
"And I heard it's so much more difficult to talk when your head is pushed under water. For your sake, shut up before I actually go through with it." Josephine huffed, not really caring if he thought that she'd do it. If anything it would give her the moment of surprise.
I became bitter and untouchable. I craved affection but even the mere thought of someone caring made my stomach turn.
(stay away but come closer)
She’s intimidating and brooding And she scares people away, because She’s not made of sugar and spice and everything nice. But rather fire and lightening and everything frightening. People see the smoldering flames And the raging winds And they think that she’s strong. They think that she’s powerful. But really, she just tends to burn herself down.

Josephine still refused to take it, knowing that it would irritate him less than the alternative in which she’d throw it at his head. She barely had anyone in her corner and she really couldn’t afford losing him as well, no matter how much she hated it. “Guess I have to get one myself then.” she merely mumbled, not too concerned about her own wellbeing, considering he worried enough for the two of them. “I’ll be alright. It’s just for a few days. I can live through a few days without food and if it provides you some solace, she is already regretting keeping me here.”
“Yeah sure. How you planning on doing that with your fucking hands tied,” he said gesturing to her place against the trainer’s desk. “You do realize people die after a few days without food right? You willing to gamble that she’d get rid of you before that?” He was pretty sure he saw Josie as a nuisance anyway. What better way to get rid of a nuisance than to kill them.
"I'll think of something. I always do. Have a little more faith in my striving for mischief and destruction. Besides, you might not be aware of this but I can do quite a lot even with my hands cuffed." Josephine said teasingly, leaning in just enough to maybe make him at least a little uncomfortable. She assumed that Melanie's office was one of the places that was listed amongst his hard limits. That didn't mean she couldn't at least try to have some fun. And surprisingly enough the prospect of seeing him squirm was one of those things that made for great entertainment. "And maybe people do. But I don't. Got some experience in that department. Of course, you could always make sure I stay hydrated though. Don't the guards still have their stash?" Josephine asked before flicking her tongue across her lips.
Five Years || Josephine & Brennan
She willed her fingertips to brush along the sides of his face, thumb tracing his lips when a smile would pull on their corners. Those words would always trigger the same reaction from him, almost as if her treatment of him during the first two years they knew each other had scarred him in a way that would always have him doubt her feelings for him. He never gave her a reason to nourish that concern and yet she couldn’t shake the feeling off that still, to this day, he deserved better than her. She had come with too much baggage, too much crazy, too much lost pieces to her own puzzle. It wasn’t fair. And it had her wonder how things would have worked out if they had met before his mother’s abduction, before the accident. Before Sterling.
Josephine released a soft sigh at the feeling of his hand, on that expressed the bliss she was experiencing whenever he’d bestow her with gentle gestures like this. It was one of the things she had become addicted to and yet she was still trying to figure out if maybe he was one of her most destructive addictions. Any drug definitely paled in comparison to him.
Before he could even consider taking off her clothes she had already ridded herself of her shirt which was soon followed by her panties before she slid off the basin counter eventually. Her hand reached for his, a small smile gracing her lips as she pulled him with her towards the tub. She liked that it was so small. It gave her an excuse to erase any and all distance between them until they were practically one.
As she began to shed her clothes he did the same, sliding himself out of his shorts and boxers and helped her kick off her panties. He took her hand and let her lead him to the tub that was full of hot water. Moving in front of her, he stepped into the tub first, the water burning his skin as he sat down before helping her in, letting her lean back against him as they sat in her small but cozy bath tub. He had offered to get them an apartment with a better tub, but he remembered how much she insisted on a smaller one and he figured it was for moments like this where they could rest in each other’s arms and just enjoy the other’s presence.
He rested his head on top of hers, one hand running up and down her arm in the water, while the other curled her hair around one of his fingers. He knew such mundane actions usually calmed her down, or she would snap at him for being such a sap. He hoped that it would be the first one today.
“You’re aunt called me last night, by the way,” he said absentmindedly, his attention still fixated on her body pressed against him and the feeling of her hair wrapped around his fingers. “She has some of her pictures opening up in a gallery and she wanted to know if we wanted to go. Told her we’d talk about it.”
Josephine stepped in carefully after him, releasing a soft sigh as soon as her body leaned into his. She loved the feeling of the hot water warming every fiber of her body, enjoyed the way his body was wrapped around hers as nimble fingers searched for their scarred counterparts, having smooth and calloused skin meet when they intertwined with each other. A small smile appeared on her lips and she allowed herself to forget about everything bad that had happened, even if only for a moment, fully aware that if it hadn't been for their pasts that they wouldn't be here right now. And without him there was no telling where she'd be now. If she'd still be here, that is.
Her eyes closed in bliss, having her press a bit closer against him when she felt his fingers in her hair. She had considered time and time again to cut it but it was for moments like this that she kept deciding against it. He seemed to like it which was reason enough to keep it the way it was. That, and she loved the feeling of his fingers getting lost in her dark curls.
"As long as there are no pictures of me again, I am good to go." Josephine returned with a small grin. She didn't actually mind it but that didn't mean she couldn't pretend to hate it. After all they were all used to her tough love by now. Most likely even anticipated it.
