“It’s about Kevin Spacey, mom.”
“He’s super hot. Also, I need to borrow one of your black dresses. I only have pantsuits, and I need to get a new job eventually. I was thinking about working at the mayor’s office.”
“Hm.” She liked Kevin Spacey. As much as she liked anyone, really. “Going to work for Missy, eh? Good. They’ll need a Fairchild in there, if they want Tartarus to weather the next storm.”
Washed Away With The Sea | Flashback ‘13 | Jo&Seb
It was only a matter of time before the Morrigans would be after him. The man had no pulse. Lungs full to the brim with water. Sebastian had blacked out. Anger had boiled over and blurred his vision. Made him see red. Made him react without thought. Just fuel. Fuel to a fire he hadn’t known burned within him.
Moving the body seemed like a cop out. But if he left it, more than just the Morrigans would rain down on him. Authorities. Investigators. There’d been plenty of witnesses at the bar to know he had wronged Sebastian. Now to turn up dead. All fingers would point to him. Though water full of lungs may strike them as odd, for his body lay on dry land.
The storm clouds rolled on, the rain pelted down against his cool, anxious body. The tides crashed and washed up the shore of the beach, leaving him dry as the water snaked up around him, and retreated back to the ocean. That’s where he sat for hours. Contemplating. Body beside him. No one came down here. Not at this hour. But how could he be sure.
Where would he put it? How could he hide this? The shore would only bring him back if he pushed him out at sea. Or would it? Did the same rules of the Island apply to the dead? He would find out. He’d take his chances if it meant he could hide this in the depths of his sea, a secret deep down only known to three. The sisters. They’d come for him. There’d be otherworldly talk, and they’d come. But maybe the body would stay, buried beneath the sea.
Manipulation of water caused the body to be swept to sea. The pull of the waves had brought the ruffian deep out, and the whirl of a vortex dragged him to the locker. Where there was promise he might stay forever.
How he got from the beach to the Fairchild’s Estate was a mystery even to him. But he had. The lights at the house were off for the most part, save for a few rooms. That was good. It meant they hadn’t been there. Yet. At least from what he could sense.
Sebastian needed Josephine. Wherever she was. She could protect him. Couldn’t she? She had always done what she could to keep him from trouble. But murder. What would murder do to her heart?
He searched through the house for her, anxiety plaguing him as more rooms he searched went without her presence. There to calm this raging storm inside. “Jo,” he said, calling out for her. Hoping not to wake Mariana. The mere sight of him was clear he’d been through something violent in nature. Blood dried from the cuts on his face, his hands. “Mom,” he cried out, loud enough to wake the household if it were as asleep as it appeared.
There was a mighty storm blowing in--an omen, surely. But Josephine adored the wind and the rain, even more so when accompanied by thunder and lightening. A storm near the crashing waves at the rocks below her manor was a beautiful sight. She stood in the atrium, eyes closed as she listened to the wind sing.
“Mom!”
Broken from her reverie, the witch frowned and left the tranquil room, walking out into the hall to quiet Sebastian. Probably drunk again...damn him. She’d put an end to these late night excursions soon.
“Jesus Christ, keep your voice down!” She hissed, ready to send him upstairs to sleep it off. But the look on his face--that gave her pause. Something was wrong. Very, very wrong. With a frown, she crossed her arms, trying not to look too alarmed. “What did you do? You look like a goddamn mess!”

“Hey mom. You want a Wheat Thin?”
“I just got done with a Skype chat to my old boss. Tying up loose ends and such. You wanna watch House of Cards?”
“What’s this about? What do you want?”
“First of all I’m still Columbian. Secondly why do you want to go to Mexico. I’m telling you they don’t make the food you like there. That’s Texan - now why is the big bad witch running away.”
“I’m not running away, Mari. Just figured we deserved a little vacation.” For a few years. “Rejoice! We’re returning to your people! We’ll find a nice cabana and spend the rest of our days drinking tequila. Or live in a hut made of mud and drink dirty water, I don’t fucking know. I just don’t wanna be here.”
“Jo - Where are you? I’m trying to figure out who is coming to dinner so if you want to eat you got to call out now.”

“Mariana, pack your goddamn satchel or basket. We’re moving to Mexico.”

Sebastian watched the digital green light from his alarm clock change from 1:54am to 3:07am. Every minute that passed him by was just another moment he stopped to think of her. A walk down a long hallway, to the east end of the Fairchild estate, and he would have had her. But he kept himself put for as long as he possibly could.
Seb let his hand slip from behind his head to beneath the sheets. Curiosity entertaining the thought of just going to see her. It was late. She was probably asleep. Or if this insomnia had been passed down through blood, maybe he’d be so lucky to find her awake, hand busy finding her own pleasure center.
It was a subconscious stream that lead him there. He hadn’t realized where he was until he was turning the knob to her bedroom door, saying nothing as he stood a silhouette in her doorway. The darkness of the room absorbed the light as he closed out the world behind him. He knew what he had to do.
Sebastian moved to the bed without speaking any words. There was need for explanation in what he was doing, for both Josephine and Sebastian knew very well what he was there for. It wasn’t nightmares that lead him to her like it had when he was young; not of the dreamscape, anyway. The only nightmares were those of Biblical standards, though Sebastian had never been one with the Lord. Couldn’t imagine to be now.
Despite a relaxing jasmine-scented bath and a nightcap, Josephine had also been unable to sleep. Briefly, she considered taking a pill, a sweet piece of oblivion, but her sixth sense told her to refrain. He would come to her, either loving or spiteful, and she needed to be prepared. However, upon the slight creak of her door as it opened, she found herself slightly surprised.
“Would have been shocked if you could sleep,” she murmured, sitting up languidly and stretching her arms up for a moment before settling upon running her hand through her tousled blonde hair. Her dark gaze settled on his form, barely highlighted by the moonlight that spilled in through her window.
“You here to fuck me or kill me?” She finally asked, soundly slightly amused. The energy emanating from him felt like it could have been either, really. Josie stopped trying to guess what Sebastian was thinking--he’d made it clear earlier that he didn’t always follow the natural path. He could still throw her a curve ball, keep her on her toes, and God, that was exciting.

Your past times consisted of the strange, The twisted and deranged And I loved that little game you had called Crying Lightning
You think it's easier To put your finger on the trouble When the trouble is you And you think it's easier To know your own tricks Well, it's the hardest thing you'll ever do
I have a will for survival So you can hurt me And then hurt me some more I can live with denial But you're not my troubles anymore

Sebastian kept his thoughts to himself. If he really wanted to leave, he would have gladly done so a long time ago. Josephine had opened the front door for him many times. Rarely ever did he choose to leave. What kept him there wasn’t so much his dependency of her, but more his selfish infatuation with the woman who gave him life. Where most his age would have left the nest by now, Seb willingly chose to stay back and tend to her. As of late, he tended to her the way a lover might.
“It’s always been up to me,” he said with a confidant stance. “My life is a creation of my own design. Don’t be mistaken. I choose, knowingly.”
Sebastian drank the whiskey, letting the contents of his glass drain to the back of his throat, leaving behind the warmth of the burn. It made him think. Mulling over what she meant by saying she was a wretched being. He too, was no saint. Like herself, he had committed the same crimes as she had. Their sins were now bound together. He couldn’t imagine leaving now.
“So, where do we go from here?” He asked, leaving the question open ended.
“Do you now?”
As bold as ever. A bossy little know-it-all, but damn if she wasn’t proud of him. They couldn’t afford weakness, and he knew that now. Josephine sipped her drink, then leaned forward against the bar, propped up on her elbow and resting her chin in her hand as she regarded him.
“That’s the million dollar question, ain’t it? Now, we do whatever the hell we want.” Lazily, she held out her glass to him. “Cheers.”

It had taken the two Fairchilds close to an hour and a half to gather materials and rebuild a majority of the wall. Not to mention the short time it took to clean up the rest of the mess they’d made.
Sebastian hadn’t thought much while they worked, even the idea of moving out seemed to pass him by. As nice as it sounded at first, he knew leaving would sever the relationship with her. That, he was not ready to do.
Two additional cups of black coffee later, and the pair had called it quits for now. Sebastian had offered to take out the trashed materials, and he had. But he needed a break.
“You have any whiskey?” He asked, climbing up the stairs ahead of her. Sebastian knew his question wasn’t necessary. Knowing Josephine, she had all the alcohol they ever needed, and then some. But it didn’t hurt to make conversation. If anything, it brought them to the same page for an idea of what to do next.
“Is the Pope Catholic?” She replied, already on her way towards the wet bar. Mariana would be waking up soon. Stella, much later. But the eldest and youngest of the household had already been up and about for so long that Josephine wouldn’t mind going straight back to bed. Emotions had more to do with that than physical labor.
“I am...a wretched human being. I know that. But you don’t have to be.” Her voice was a little softer than usual, the sort of tone she took on whenever she had to admit something she didn’t enjoy. It was rare, but it happened. “You still have time, Sebastian.” She poured him a glass of whiskey before opening a bottle of scotch for herself.
“What happens now is up to you.” It wasn’t often, if ever, that Josephine relinquished power and allowed others to have a say in her future. But she owed Sebastian that much.

Sebastian should have listened, then and there, to get out. He would have, had any of those outcomes served a higher purpose. Locking her away wasn’t going to fix what had been done. For all he knew, this was another one of her elaborate lies, but then again, why go this far? She wouldn’t.
“I’ll leave on my own terms, when I’m god damn ready to leave.”
His hand had found her throat. Backed and pinned, Jo was forced against the cool cement wall behind her. Sebastian had plans all right. “You’re gonna get back what was taken from me, or I promise you one thing in the world: I’ll do far worse to you. You think me locking you up behind a wall is a worse fate?” Sebastian asked with a twisted smile. “I’ve got news for you. Where do you think I get all that creativity from? Wont be a dull moment.”
He let up his grip and turned on his foot, looking from her to the bricks. He couldn’t just leave it like this. Not if they were going to keep this their little secret.
“Where’s the god damn plaster? We’re gonna need more bricks.”
Whatever she’d expected, it hadn’t been this. The hand around her throat--that was more like it. And the threats. But to build up the wall again? To join in on this dark secret...maybe he’d try to use it for blackmail later. Then again, that wouldn’t make sense. After all, she no longer cared. His hand released her and she glowered at his back, her hands balling into fists as she fought to keep her temper at bay.
He had some goddamn nerve.
“Loads of construction material in the garage, from the house repairs.” Josephine finally replied. Her hands were trembling. With one last look at Paul, she stepped forward, reached out and gripped Sebastian’s chin, turning him to face her. Her lips met his, briefly, though it was not a chaste peck by any means. “We’re gonna need more coffee.”
And with that, the witch strode up the stairs and out of the cellar, wondering just how much lower she should bring down the price of the old Williams’ house.
For another tenant.

There was enough proof before him to say what had been done. Though the force of a swing, clipping through and hitting a stack of stubborn bricks, felt a hell of a lot more satisfying than standing around like a bewildered little boy. He pulled back and went at it again. And again. Until more had fallen. The bricks didn’t fall in crumbles like they did for Josephine, but hunks of brick that blasted across the room, and he hadn’t a care where they went.
The more he swung the pickax, the more he revealed what was chained up behind that wall. A faint reminder of every lie she ever told; for Paul Chiasson never left at all. He’d been right there with him for all his life.
Enough of the wall was broken down for Sebastian to stop, and now he was just fighting against the rage that pulsed through him. With a clang, he chucked the ax to the ground, breathing heavier from all the energy he vented out.
Questions upon questions ran through his head, staring at the sight before him. “Is that what you mean,” he paused, gathering the thought in full with a chill. “When you tell me I’m just like him?” He turned to look at her, disbelief welling in his eyes to think she could ever do something like this.
“You’re sick,” he said, sneering at her, like the pot calling the kettle black.
The gears in his mind started turning. He had found the skeletons (in this case, in her basement and not the closet) that were more like a gateway than a dead end. "Does your council know about this? Who haven’t you told? I about imagine just about everyone. You kill her father too?“
“You’re the only one who knows, but, by all means, shout it to the heavens. I give up.” She had her arms crossed, studying the chained skeleton with a mixture of disgust and sadness. You’re sick. He had no idea. “Gordon’s under the floorboards, just there,” she gestured, an eyebrow raised. There wasn’t much left of him, however.
“They both wanted me to get rid of you. Paul didn’t want to be a father and Gordon didn’t want his best friend’s bastard in the house. It was either you or them, and I chose you. I chose you, I chose Stella, and I chose me, because goddamnit, I was sick of it! Sick of the abuse, sick of being pushed around when I knew I was so much stronger than they’d ever know. Now they know. Go tell the police. Tell the council. Tell Stella, and Mari. Let them lock me away! I don’t care what you do, Sebastian...just get out of my house.”
