Capturing Creativity from a New Generation of Artists
For more imaginative artwork from teenage artists, ranging from paintings to drawings to ceramics, browse the #highschoolart hashtag.
“The #highschoolart hashtag on Instagram is a big collaboration board,” says Suzy Smith, a high school art teacher in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. “I check it to see what types of projects other schools do.” Her class has its own account, @lsw_art, where she posts exceptional student artwork and photos of their weekly assignments-in-progress. To protect their privacy, Suzy does not identify the young artists by name.
“So often, teens are controlled in their environment to only produce things within specific guidelines. With art, they are provided options, are encouraged to think outside of the box and really, live outside of the typical limitations that school normally requires of them,” Suzy says. “In a large school, it’s easy to get tucked away in a corner without a lot of visibility. So Instagram is a visual newsletter for parents and students.”
Hey guys. Just in case anyone has been wondering why I haven’t been posting as often as I used to. I’ve been getting more and more involved with a dog shelter and also trying to help out animals independently. Doing this has made me extremely happy even though it can be sad and heartbreaking sometimes. It feels like I have a purpose, like I’m actually doing something with my life! I just wish I didn’t have a full time job so I could go to the shelter everyday but I need money to keep helping animals.
The pictures in the middle are from a new born cat that was brought to me by a girl who found it on the street. The first one is from the day we got him and the one to the right is recent, he’s doing fine and opened his cute little eyes a week ago.
There’s been quite a few cases I’ve been involved with lately so they’ve taken a big chunk of my free time, again I apologize for the lack of posts! I’m sure you guys can understand.
Anyways I wish you a great weekend and remember…
