Michael Easton & Renee Goldsberry’s OLTL end show bumper in the 2000’s. ♥
"In honor of our friend reneeelisegoldsberry whose documentary "Satisfied" premieres at The Tribeca Film Festival this weekend, we flashback to a scene from OLTL. Either John McBain was the least sensible character I ever played (who wouldn't commit to this girl?) or this is one of the better jobs of acting I ever did (because no one should believe you'd let her walk out the door). For her part, Renee was deservedly nominated for an Emmy (mostly for being brilliant but also for having to put up with me for two years) and the entire time I worked with her I knew she was destined to do amazing things with her life and she has. Sending love and congratulations."

White women were fuckin PISSED about Evangeline! I was really shocked when I saw a poll or conversation about interracial relationships on tv in one of those soap magazines. Shit was… just there like it was okay to even talk about. And these women were blasting Vangie. This was when she was with Todd. They were nasty and my young stupid ass was shocked.
It wasn’t only that this black woman was with these white men but the ones that were the most popular and powerful, especially Todd Manning. She just wasn’t “good enough” for them. Some women were legit like “I just don’t support interracial relationships, I’m not racist, I just don’t think it’s right”. They tried putting her into a thing with RJ for a minute I think. So forced, I don’t remember clearly. But that crushed my spirit a bit and shortly after, I stopped watching.
And I see years later (2007, I guess) they fucking won.
They won on-screen, but when you look at Renee and Michael’s careers respectively, they didn’t win. JMO.
14 Days of Love 💕🔥 - #12. Evangeline “Vangie” Williamson and John McBain
From the moment these two first met in Angel Square to discuss a case for which they were on opposite sides, there were sparks. But would One Life to Live go there? Most didn’t think so due in part to the obvious, Evangeline being African-American and John being white one of the most popular male leads on the show, who already had a “soul mate”🙄😒 in Natalie Buchanan. African-American women were just not paired with the male lead of a show. Well they did go there. First with a dare kiss, then a game of pool, a bottle of wine and a locked basement door that led to one of hottest love scenes in daytime history. Vangie and John decided that their night together in that locked basement was just too much wine and thus a “one-time thing”, but then they slept together again and it turned into a “two-time thing.” They quickly became friends with benefits (FWB), which soon led to lunch dates, movie dates and eventually “some strings” i.e. double dates, football games, an exchange of house keys and a him giving her his mother’s pearls. The natural progression of their interactions from FWB to a real relationship was interesting and grown-up and their chemistry was FIRE🔥 . These two had the potential to become one of the most popular couples on the show, but the writers torpedoed that potential with their need to return to the old and tired status quo. John was reunited with Natalie Buchanan, who he wasn’t even lukewarm about, and Evangeline was shuffled off to Cristian Vega, an unemployed artist who was beneath her, with her and John never to be revisited again. Its truly a shame because it can’t be said enough how much these two sizzled and their lives could and did make sense together. I still smile at what these two were and sigh 😔 at what could’ve been.
