As a young journalist covering technology during the first big wave of virtual reality in the 1990s, I had a brainstorm: This nascent medium that was being touted as entertainment could be much more.

I envisioned a future when my personal and professional passion for news would merge with what seemed like a revolutionary technology to create something never seen before: VR in journalism.

I called it "joVRnalism."

Today, it seems like that future is emergent.

JOVRNALISM aims to convene the conversation about how VR and other immersive and spatial media can and should be used to make good journalism, and to make journalism better in the public interest.
