about this blog -> this blog is dedicated to the virtual band gorillaz! I am a longtime fan and have been into the band for most of my life and apart of the fandom since 2015/2016, so pre-return and phase #4. for this blog, my main motivation for this blog is to reblog/access a bunch of stuff from my time in the fandom and before that, as well as modern stuff. one of the biggest aspects of this blog is cataloguing, archiving, and preservation. for gorillaz, I create art, writing, and analyses among other things

A snippet of one of of 2-D's (Nelson De Freitas) voice lines from the Escape to Plastic Beach web/mobile game

From everything I can find, this line is 2-D referencing a boat he was attempting to escape on, which had a smaller banana-shaped raft attached to it carrying about three blowup dolls he had stolen from Murdoc. He appears to have said this line shortly after the player (Murdoc) has returned to the island, who then must pursue and thwart him (Sources: x, x)

Hm…I guess this is my first personal-ish post for this blog!

Anyway, I kinda just wanted to say how motivating/inspiring it is to go through stuff from my time in the fandom, as well as seeing blogs from my time that are still around

This isn’t the case for, I’d go as far as to say 80% (maybe higher) of the blogs that were around during my time, but for those who are the exception…I don’t know, it’s really amazing to see people I “knew” back then still enjoying Gorillaz

What I’ve seen more than that is so, so, so many people who participated in the community and made some of the most amazing creations depart on bad terms. I won’t judge because this was the case for myself as well, and I’d say it’s probably just a constant looming thing when you’re into Gorillaz. The chances of departing on bad terms is pretty high, it just depends on what the bad terms are. For me, it’s always the source material itself, though the fandom gets pretty damn close sometimes

A lot of the time this happened to artists, more specifically 2Doc artists. I think the amount of people who got into Gorillaz, drew incredible 2Doc art, left on bad terms (sometimes not confirmed) and totally wiped their catalog of art off the internet (to the best of their abilities) is depressingly high. I witnessed a lot of it myself. But again, I don’t blame them

I haven’t gotten around to it yet, but since going through so many old blogs I used to follow, I’ve (much to my delight) come across a lot of these artists’ work again. I’ve got a mild obsession when it comes to archiving and internet preservation, so aside from loving the art I get a kick out of seeing that kind of stuff

I keep it pretty private (up until this blog), but I have places where I properly catalog and archive some of these artists. Whether they departed on bad terms and erased their Gorillaz work, or whether they forcefully departed due to…things…I love doing it. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if I like the art or not, it’s just fun and so fascinating to do

All of this of course does make me wonder how I would feel if someone did this with my art, or art I purposefully get rid of because of my own reasons…I’m not sure, honestly. I don’t think it’s really a possibility, but that’s besides the point. I’d probably be pretty…embarrassed? Not sure. There’s a lot of reasons to erase yourself and your art off the internet. For me, it’s almost always for self loathing reasons, I can’t really think of an instance where that wasn’t the reason. But I know and for most can only assume a lot of them did it because of the fandom, etc…maybe it brings back bad memories, maybe they simply hate their art from that time, whatever, and maybe seeing their art from that time scattered across the internet despite their attempt to purge it also brings back awful feelings…

Anyway, my point is that, that thought is something that’s somewhat making me hesitate to start reblogging that old stuff here. Unlike the other places I do the archiving, this is public. It’s not like I have millions of eyes on me, but it’s more of a thing on my conscious wondering about the artists themselves

Anyway. I wanted to make this post to consolidate my Gorillaz/Gorillaz fandom-specific posts to this blog, since that is its entire purpose

Birds of a Feather| Animation by: ☼ Not canon, but I’m relatively new to the overall Gorillaz storyline and have just been pouring over the the storyline, especially Murdoc’s, whose story/character I’ve come to be quite fascinated by. I recently found this video after getting lost on a youtube journey and couldn’t resist making it into a photoset because I think it really works as an alternate explanation.
