Carrot Heist Game Page
Just in case, you guys wanted to make sure you're at the right page! This is the game page on itch.io for Carrot Heist! The game is FREE. There is a download button which will download the zip file that you will need to extract from to get the application. I believe certain computer softwares will warn of it being harmful but I assure you, it is not! Computers will say that just because it was downloaded from a web browser! Hope you guys enjoy it!
Game is Live!
Howzit guys! This is a screenshot of the finished game! It's available on itch.io. The link to check it out is https://ghostin808.itch.io/carrot-heist.
Very late update
Hey guys! sorry I know I’m pretty bad at posting but I’ve just been working on the development of the game and I can safely say that I have completed it! As an indie developer, I had to realize that in order to meet deadlines, I had to cut certain things from the project that I initially had planned. With that being said, I’ve cut the two other enemy types that I had originally shown and just kept the one rabbit that chases you. After having friends playtest it for me, I’ve noticed that it is still moderately difficult and players still want to play to beat their highest score. So, that is a relief to me!
I will be getting ready to publish the game to itch.io after I make some edits to the game page. I will be posting some updates soon to give you guys a sneak peek at the full build!
Slight Change of Plans
After having a Zoom meeting with my Game Design professor yesterday, there has been a small change of plans. The original idea was to release Carrot Heist on Steam, but after discussing it further, I have come to the conclusion that I will release it on itch.io! If I’m being honest, the whole idea of releasing the game on Steam was very intimidating to me as it would mean being released alongside major, indie game titles with already-popular indie game companies. Steam is a great place to find indie games and kudos to Valve for creating such a place for Indie developers to thrive but because my game is more of a “mini-game” I am more comfortable releasing it on itch.io. Perhaps sometime in the future, the game may move to Steam, but for now, look forward to finding it on itch.io!
Quick update - Here’s the fully colored version of the main rabbits that will chase the player. Gonna work in Unity some more to create a running animation for them!
Oops! I realized I made that long post without explaining what the picture was - Haha! That is the second iteration of the patrol bunny. I did not quite like the first iteration and thought it stuck out to much. With this one, I think it fits more. What do you guys think?
Hi, Everyone! So I haven’t been making the progress that I’d like to lately and I am coming real close to the end of the semester so I am going to be working my butt off for the next month/month and a half. I have not got any animation stuff done nor have all the assets for my game. I am not quite in a place where I feel comfortable making a YouTube series yet about my progress and want to wait until I have a bit more to show. Again, in the YouTube series, I just want to do a quick recap of my progress talking about development, marketing, and publicizing my game. So look forward to that.
Good news is that I have found a very helpful, fairly recent series on YouTube on how to use Playmaker to build a game. So with that being said, I am happy to say that I have the components for Carrot Heist to be a completed game meaning that there is a lose condition! For those of you wondering, there isn’t a certain win-condition in this game, the goal is to just get the highest score. Once I clean some things up, I will be posting a preview of the game. Stay tuned.
After stressing over some development issues, I have decided to try and sketch out some designs for the different types of enemies that would be incorporated into the game. On the left, we have a simple angry rabbit that will chase the player throughout the whole game. That rabbit will force players to keep moving to avoid getting hit. The middle one is one I am calling “Hungry Bunny.” Hungry Bunnies will go to the carrots, which are the point systems, and eat them, preventing the player from obtaining points. The last one on the right is a rabbit that I tried to make look like a cop. This rabbit will be on patrol the whole game and will only chase the player if in a certain vicinity.
Update - February 2nd
Hey, everyone! Just a quick little update for the release of the game. These past couple of weeks I was able to talk with my Game Design Professor and get helpful suggestions from him as I move along in the development stage. With that, I have been using this past week to think of enemy behavior and figure out how to implement AI into the game. Stressful things to figure out. So, when that would bother me too much, I found time to do some art stuff for the game. I will post some concept sketches I had for the game! For now, enjoy the new avatar for the Blog!
============
Moving forward, I’ll continue to work on the game as fast as I can. Once I get the enemy behavior down, I will be moving onto animations to finalize things for the game. On a time crunch and want to get this game finished as soon as possible so I can start thinking about distribution and marketing.
Hi, everyone! This is a quick introduction video about me and what my profile will follow for the next few months! Hope you guys enjoy the content!
