I’ll be at @cartooncrossroads this weekend with books and original art. Come say hi! #CXC2018 https://www.instagram.com/p/BoMzy5JhhHI/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=194fb8c62fwnb
Having been struggling to catch up on deadlines and bummed about applying unsuccessfully for day jobs, it was extra wonderful to hold issue 1 of The Nib magazine in my hands. So many cartoonists and writers I admire have work in here, and it was a privilege to be trusted to illustrate journalist Liliana Segura’s story on lethal injection. I have so much respect for her reporting. It was not an easy illustration job (I read my first autopsy report, etc. to get the drawings right), so I hope folks read it and get something out of it. Also, thank you to Michele for looking into what the pupils of people executed under certain circumstances would look like. On a lighter note, I love Mary Roach’s books and my Dad reads all of her work too, so when I saw that she was interviewed for a comic in here I almost fell out of my chair. Every Artist an Organized Artist, Part 3: System Check. 🎛👁 . Link in profile
I’ve been rummaging around learning about early American artists unions and thinking about how we can apply lessons from their experiences to help organize cartoonists and illustrators here-and-now, in the year of Our Trash Fire 2018. Part 1 is up, link in profile.
1. Im thrilled to have work in the first issue of @the_nib magazine, w/ so many folks I admire. It’s going to be a rad magazine. 😎 2. The Nib editors are smart and wonderful and patient, and I can’t wait to peep these pages and see what they’ve cooked up 🔮 3. They pay me in time, a rare and wondrous thing 🎷 Kickstarter link is in The Nib’s bio, or search in KS for The Nib.

Why, it’s Robert Todd Lincoln, showing up in historical events again.
This time, I wrote a little about his connection to Arlington House, based on the research I did for my comic about Arlington House at @thenib.
(There’s a little bit of art stuff in there too. Oil pastels are fun and frustrating.)
