Marley had to admit, being surrounded by a group of people at all times had its benefits. There was always someone with lip balm or mascara for casual between class touch ups; she was always hearing about the latest gossip so she wouldnāt be out of the loop when it came to what parties they would hit on the weekend and if she ever forgot her pen in class, there would always be a fellow cheerio near by just dying to lend her one of theirs. Sure, it was weird to have the freshman getting her coffee from the Lima Bean on occasion, but that was Quinnās doing, not hers. Plus, her schedule was exhausting and the java most definitely helped. However, as she stood at her locker listing to Quinn drone on and on about routines and celibacy club, she wanted nothing more than to excuse herself and find a quiet corner of the school to escape the nagging. Instead, she zoned out - nodding and saying āyeah, obviouslyā on occasion to make it seem like she was invested.Ā
Absentmindedly gazing over Quinnās shoulder out of boredom, a familiar face caught her eye and before she knew it, she found a smirk forming on her lips. Jake Puckerman, standing out like a sore thumb among all the letterman jackets in the crowded hallway, was in her line of sight and if she was being honest with herself, before the weekend - she probably wouldnāt have noticed. However, the party had definitely peaked her interest in him. When her eyes met his, she was automatically taken back to a blur of tangled sheets, playful banter and one broken lamp that she promised to replace. All the touching and teasing had halted since then, but it certainly wasnāt 'out of sight out of mindā to her.Ā
āMarley⦠Earth to Marlsā¦ā she heard Quinn, as forceful fingers snapped her back into reality. The blonde was clearly annoyed she was being ignored and even though Marley didnāt have the energy to keep up with her banter, she hadnāt meant to offend the girl.Ā Breaking eye contact with the boy across the hall, she was caught off guard by her classmates scowl. āYeah, Iāll be thereā Marley answered quickly, unsure as to what she was even agreeing to.
Jake never liked Mondays, it meant he had to go back to school and that was the number one place he didnāt want to be. Heād much rather be in a dance studio somewhere or better still, at home in bed, rather than having to sit through another Mr Davis calculus lesson. It wasnāt even like he had a huge group of friends that made school fun. He didnāt have a clique as such, nor did he really want one. He just had a few casual friends that kind of made school semi-bearable. But he was oddly looking forward to this Monday, if only because it meant he got to see Marley again. Itād be the first time heād seen her since the party⦠well technically the morning after the party, and he was keen to do it all over again.
He didnāt exactly have a game plan for talking to her, or any moves he was going to pull. He was just going to go with the flow and see what happened, it seemed to be working out for him so far. Jake was getting his books from his locker, in his own little world when he happened to glance up and catch Marleyās eye. She was looking right at him, and he couldnāt help but smirk. Their night and been a lot of fun, and looking at her from across the hallway was just making him remember it all even more vividly than he had been before.
Jake flashed her one of his charming smiles as she kept eye contact with him, laughing softly to himself as he watched Quinn trying to get her attention. He had a pretty good feeling the attraction went two ways, and he was definitely going to make the most of that. Marley was cool, she could make him laugh and any time spent with her was time he genuinely enjoyed. It was an nice feeling and he wanted more. Once she broke the eye contact, he grabbed a final book from his locker before heading over towards where the Cheerio and her minions were stood.
āHey, could I borrow Marley for a minute? I need to talk to her about a science project, weāre partners.ā He lied, not knowing whether the other girls would know that but he didnāt exactly care. āYeah, we have some, uh, chemistry stuff to talk about.ā He added, flashing another smile at Marley as he grabbed her elbow gently and steered her away from the group.
āSo⦠hey. You looked pretty bored, thought you could use an escape.ā He explained once they were away from the group. āBut how are you? Recovered from the weekend?ā He asked, ignoring the fact that he could feel the groupās eyes on them, although at least they were out of earshot.
