Love
My husband and I spend more time talking about how much we like our bed than we do talking about how much we like each other. To be fair, it's a Tempur-Pedic. I know I can't compete with that.
Romance
Nothing shows as much true devotion as helping your husband prepare and apply to residency programs every night, for the last week, ending on your anniversary. Just keeping the flame alive folks!
The answers to my anatomy test were inside me the whole time
When your husband is on an away and you are fending for yourself. Him: How many cookies did you eat? Me: ….just one….
Three years ago I worked at a juvenile treatment facility, before moving with my husband for medical school. During that time I got really sick. Like the classic, zombie-walker, fever/chills, coughing up *green stuff* sick. After a few weeks I finally told my husband I thought I needed to see a doctor. He was skeptical and I could tell he was slightly annoyed with how loud I was coughing, how much time I was spending in bed, etc. So I didn’t see a doctor. Today my husband tells me that he now believes I was actually very ill. Because he read while studying for his big test coming up that working at places that house groups of teens is an exposure risk for Mycoplasma pneumoniae aka atypical pneumonia. He told me he was sorry I was sick that one time three years ago and he didn’t take me seriously.
Picking a Specialty
Husband: Radiology is great. Radiologists have good, set work hours. They make decent money. They can read films from just about anywhere. Me: Wow that sounds awesome! Husband: Yeah. It's just too bad I don't really enjoy it. Me: Oh.... 😒
My husband came home with a big nondescript black box today. Me: Hey what’s in the box? DH: (casually) A body. Me: 😶
Ortho-Trauma Overnight
My husband just worked from 5:00am on Monday until 5:00pm on Tuesday. He was with the on call team over night.
He is dead asleep when I get home from my evening errands. As I prepare to get in the bed:
DH: You can turn on the light. Me: (slightly surprised) Uh…no I’m just about to get in bed. DH: Well you should turn it down. Me: Turn what down? DH: The heat. Me: You want me to turn the heat down? It’s not on. DH: Just turn it down to ten or eight. Me: What are you talking about? DH: I am not crazy. When a leg is broken, you have to get it to the side of the body, and fix it, and put a cast on it. Me: Are you saying you want ME to cast it? DH: No! I swear I am making sense! Me: (starting to laugh….then laughing harder) DH: I am not crazy! Why are you laughing?
(At this point I am laughing really hard and can’t stop it or quiet it. DH quickly falls back asleep)
Me: (*finally* get into the bed) DH: (irritated) Well then why are we talking about the ex fix all of a sudden?! Me: *crying from laughing* WE’RE NOT! DH: nirwegujsfessscalnemzzzzzzZzzzzZzZZ
Remind me to look up how to cast a broken leg on YouTube tomorrow and what the hell an ex fix is…

Ha
Last night my husband was holding me in his arms. It was quite a tender moment. Then he said “What if I could shake you like an etch-a-sketch and it erased your memory?”
Introducing your future neurologist ladies and gentlemen.
Being On Time
So…my husband works really hard all night and ends up staying up very late. This was causing him to have a little trouble waking up in the mornings.
His solution was to download an alarm clock from the app store that requires the user to take a reference picture the night before. The user must then take a picture that matches the reference picture to turn off the alarm clock.
Genius idea, really.
My husband got his reference picture set up and set a wake time for the next day. The alarm goes off the next morning on full volume. I listen as my husband frantically runs down our stairs to take a matching picture. I also listen as he fails miserably to match the picture well enough. The alarm keeps restarting EVERY TEN SECONDS I KID YOU NOT.
He finally just closes the app.
Then he gets back in the bed.
Sometimes he accidentally opens the app back up on his phone and the alarm starts blaring every time.
Labor and Delivery, Nights
Husband: I’m on nights until the weekend. Me: What so you’re leaving like six at night? Coming home after I go to work? Will we get to see each other at all?! Husband: I know, I’m sorry! It’s only for a few days and then back to normal. Me: okay *tear*
Husband leaves for first night shift
Me:
OB/GYN Rotation
Me: How was your day? Husband: Great! I got to deliver a baby! Me: ….really? And everybody was just okay with that? Husband: Well yeah basically every patient in the unit was having babies at the same time so….yep! Me: Well how was it? Crazy? Cool? Hard? Were you nervous? Husband: It just happened really fast. It was kind of a mess. Me: I thought you said they had some sort of catch all? So there weren’t messes. Husband: Like I said, it happened really fast, there wasn’t a bunch of set up … *checks the bottom of his shoes*
