Cam couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that he’d won, and that he had Jude completely now. That he was engaged to him, that a few weeks or months after this, he’d be able to wake up every morning to see this beautiful man’s face. He had a fiancé. “Yeah. Yes. Always,” he blurted out, nodding vigorously with a huge grin on his face, too happy and overwhelmed to really say anything coherent. When he looked at Jude shakily sliding the ring onto his ring finger, he realised he was shaking as well. Admiring the ring for a few seconds, he looked back up at Jude, completely enamoured and fond. “You’re the love of my life,” he whispered as he slid his arms around Jude’s neck and kissed him with everything he had. He’d never felt this loved before, so utterly happy and content that this was his life now. And the sweetest reminder appeared a couple of seconds later, looking adorable in her white dress. “I could never say no to you,” he replied sweetly to Jude before bending down to pick Bee - god, she’d be his daughter soon - up so she didn’t have to hug their legs. “Well, I think you’ve got great taste in rings, it’s absolutely gorgeous,” he said, grinning as he used his free arm to pull Jude into a group hug, kissing his cheek. “I can’t believe this is happening,” he admitted, feeling himself get a little emotional in the moment. Oh well, he couldn’t really find it in himself to be embarrassed.

Jude was so overwhelmed with relief and happiness that he could hardly contain himself. His eyes wettened but he didn’t actually start crying, but if he blinked a few tears of happiness out, well, then... he did. Cam looked about as emotional as Jude felt, so. He smiled wider than he ever had before and a sense of comfort washed over him because his fear that he’d be alone, or that he’d worry, or that he’d dwell on the hearts he’d problem - that fear was completely gone. Cam had said yes, and Jude felt like he’d done something incredibly, incredibly right. Bee was going to have two parents, and Jude was going to move with Bee to New York, and the opportunities there would be endless. “I love you so much,” Jude whispered in reply, melting into the kiss, feeling every ounce of love between them. And when Cam picked up Bee - Jude felt like his heart was going to explode and he happily folded into a hug with them, Bee’s arms around both of their shoulders. “I’m gonna have two daddies!” Bee said cheerfully. “All the kids at school are gonna be so jealous.” Jude chuckled and didn’t even ask her what she meant by that, because school was a topic they’d have to tackle later - because of the whole moving thing. Jude looked into Cam’s eyes and smiled so brightly, and he leaned in for another kiss as he whispered, “I love you. Thank you. For everything. I -- I can’t wait to start our new life together.”

As Jude continued talking, Cam’s eyes were wide, and his breath was completely taken away.Could it really be…? He held Jude’s hands a little tighter, the hopeful smile on his face widening by the second. His jaw dropped slightly and a soft gasp escaped his lips when Jude told him he was ridiculously in love with him. And when Jude reached into his pocket, a wave of so many emotions, happiness, pure joy, excitement, and relief, and so many more washed over him, and he covered his mouth with a hand, choking out a shocked laugh. Everything about that moment was more than Cam could ever dare to dream of, the man of his dreams down on one knee and proposing to him. The ring was so gorgeous, and Cam had trouble focusing on one thing, but then he saw Jude’s smile, and he couldn’t look away. He was so in love. “Oh my god, I- of course I will marry you, Jude Visaria,” he said, grinning so wide and feeling so happy he thought he might burst.

Jude grew in confidence with every word as he watched Cam’s reaction, his clear happiness, the joy on his face giving Jude reassurance that he’d made the right decision in the end. And god - hearing Cam say yes was one of the most beautiful moments of Jude’s life, right up there with the day Bee was born, when he’d heard her first cries. “Yeah?” Jude asked happily, when Cam accepted, and he stood up, hands shaking a bit from nerves and adrenaline both as he pulled the ring from the case and slowly slid it onto Cam’s finger. Jude felt so overwhelmed he couldn’t really speak, but he was so happy. He reached out to pull Cam into a kiss so full of love and tenderness Jude could feel it in his chest. And just when he thought the moment couldn’t get any better, he heard Bee’s voice, and damn those producers he was about to get emotional and teary-eyed, telling Bee that this was it. He’d built her the family she’d dreamed of for years. He leaned away to smile at Cam before looking down at his side where Bee stood in a very pretty white sundress, smiling from ear to ear. “He said yes, sweetheart,” Jude told her excitedly. He turned to Cam and said with pride, “She helped pick the ring and everything.” Bee smiled proudly at her dad’s side and nodded as she said, “Yeah! He let me help with that and asked me who I liked best and I’m so excited!” The last word trailed off into a squeal and she rushed forward to hug their legs, the only things within reach.

Cam couldn’t help but smile at Jude, genuinely this time, because even if he were to be dumped right there and then, he knew that they both had changed each other for the better, and perhaps that would be enough for him and them if it had to be. “I want to do that, be that person. I’m so confident that your life is going to be so amazing, with me or not,” he replied, but he was a little too nervous to say that much more. “I’m sorry, there’s like, so much I wish I could say to you, but I’m so nervous that I kind of blanked out a bit,” he chuckled nervously at himself, blushing.

Seeing that smile on Cam’s face helped Jude relax and focus on what he was about to do. Cam always had that effect on him now. “No but see -” Jude began. He smiled at Cam’s nervousness and said, “You are that person. Cam - you make me feel like I can conquer the whole world. Like... with you I don’t worry as much. You help me relax. You teach me to think of myself, too, and not just everyone around me. You make me feel proud to just... be who I am. Like I’m enough as I am.” Jude took a deep breath and said, “Cameron Lye, I am ridiculously in love with you. And so is my daughter, but in a little different way,” he chuckled. His nerves had him rambling a bit. Jude reached into his pocket and deftly pulled out a black velvet box, cupping it in his hand for a moment before he knelt down right there in front of Cam. With a big smile on his face, Jude opened the box and asked, “Cam, will you please make me the luckiest man alive and marry me?”

“Oh, that’s alright. I’ll call him once I make it home,” Lena insisted, wanting her brother to have at least a few more hours before he’d want to drop everything to comfort her. It’d feel so final to hear his voice, to have him comfort her, and Lena wasn’t sure she could handle that right now. She’d finally stopped crying, and she knew it would be impossible to keep herself from crying again if she heard from her brother so soon. She appreciated Jude’s concern, however. Lena decided right then that in spite of how hurt she felt and how things hadn’t worked out, she didn’t want to lose Jude. She stopped walking a few feet away from the dock and took his hands in hers, determined to say just one more thing. “You do so much for everyone around you. It’s amazing, and it’s one of the best things about you, but I want you to remember yourself sometimes. You’re incredible, Jude, and I don’t want you to ever lose sight of that. You deserve so much. I want you to remember to take care of yourself just as much as you take care of everyone around you. Just… be happy,” she told him seriously, hoping that everything would work out for him.

Jude was a little worried when Lena said she’d wait to call her brother, but it wasn’t his place to try to change her mind. He knew that she always had a good reason for doing something, and it wouldn’t be fair, especially now, to try to change that. “Just... take care of yourself, alright?” he said. He’d been worried about hurting Lena and he knew that he had, even though she put on a brave face. That was just what she did - acted brave and strong so as to not worry those around her. He admired that about her. Jude wore his heart on his sleeve, sometimes to his detriment. Her final words to him made his heart swell and he couldn’t help but stop at the dock and reach out to give her one last hug. “Thank you,” he said softly. “The same goes for you though, alright? And when you get home... let Chris help you. It might be hard to get out there again but you should. You can do it. You’re much stronger and much more of a catch than I think you give yourself credit for.” Jude planted a soft kiss on her forehead and then leaned away to help her climb into the boat that was docked next to where they were standing. “Safe travels,” he said softly. Swallowing back the emotions that hit him as he realized this could be the last time he saw Lena, ever, he said, “Thank you for everything, Lena.”

“Good,” Cam replied, smiling bravely at Jude. Holding onto Jude’s hands, he listened to what he had to say. He couldn’t help but smile at his words. Knowing it was his turn to say his piece, he took a deep breath and spoke. “I just really wanted to thank you. You were the person that just… came into my life so unexpectedly and changed it for the better. Because of you, I’m now a better and kinder person. And because of you… I believe in love again. I know it exists. And I know that it’s reachable. Seeing you open up to me so easily, and to know that you trusted me from the start was just the most amazing feeling. I feel like I’ve grown so much in just two months. This experience has been completely unbelievable in the best way, so, thank you.”

Jude held onto Cam’s hands and let him say his piece, and he felt jittery thinking about what came next. He looked into Cam’s eyes and even through all the turmoil, all the worry, the breakdown in front of Cam and the one with his mom later that night, too... it was all worth it. Every moment was worth it to bring him to this point. “Thank you,” Jude said, nodding. “That... it means so much to me to hear you say that. Because these past two months with you, having you there with me during the good and the bad... they’ve been some of the best months of my life. You’ve given me so much hope for the future. Hope that I can become the adult I’ve always wanted to be. That I can give my daughter a life that she’ll be proud of.” The words were right at the tip of his tongue but he wanted to draw it out, if only just a few seconds more.

“You don’t need to thank me. It was easy,” Lena assured him, wiping away his tears the way he’d done for her just moments ago. Romantic or not, she had so much love for him. She couldn’t imagine being anything less than understanding after everything he’d gone through and overcome. He felt like a kindred spirit in that way, and she didn’t want to lose that. “Of course you can. One last time,” she offered him a sad smile in return, finally feeling some of the pain subside. I’m going home, she realized, and everything she’d had before would still be there for her. Her brother, her friends, her students. She couldn’t refuse one last chance to walk with Jude, although she felt ready to go. It was a bittersweet feeling - to know that everything was going to be okay eventually, even if it wasn’t with Jude.

Jude was so grateful that he’d even had the opportunity to meet Lena, because she’d taught him so much even if she didn’t realize it. She taught him to find family wherever he could - whether they were blood or not. She’d showed him what true strength was, and how to stay genuine and true to himself no matter what circumstances he was under. She’d been a confidant, a friend, and a wonderful woman to spend two months with, dating and exploring and opening up to love again. In a way, even though Jude had chosen someone else in the end, they’d both needed this relationship. He took her hand and led her towards the dock, feeling an unbearable sadness in his chest at the thought that he didn’t know if he’d ever see her again. “I think when you get on the boat they’ll let you call your brother,” Jude said as they walked. He was sure she’d want someone to talk to, to cry to maybe. If she let herself cry over it again. Jude hoped that if she got to hear Chris’s voice again, she’d be a little more okay for the long journey home.

“I don’t want you to be sorry, really. You’re following your heart, and I’m happy for you. I know it doesn’t seem like it now, but I am,” Lena couldn’t help but smile at the irony of her words. Here she was, insisting that she was happy that the man she loved found love with someone else at the same time that she was in tears. She never had gotten used to the dramatic circumstances of the show. In an odd way, it would be nice to go home and try again without all the added heartbreak of falling in love on television. She’d never gotten past it - maybe it had never been for her. It was conflictingly comforting to hug Jude one last time, and Lena wasn’t quite sure how she felt about it. “Lame Facebook friends. That sounds really nice,” she agreed, even as her voice choked up. She didn’t want to watch him disappear completely. Not after becoming so close. It felt strange to think of being friends with Jude, but Lena had faith that they could get there one day.

Jude looked down at Lena and when he blinked, he felt a tear slide down his own cheek. “I will never be able to thank you enough for being so understanding of Bee, and my situation,” Jude said softly. “And I know big flashy things like this show were never really your style, so...” he trailed off for a moment before he said, “Maybe giving love another chance without so much pressure will work out well for you. I hope it does. I want to see you happy.” He smiled, though a bit sadly, and said, “Alright then. We’ll do that. Whenever you’re ready, you’ll know how to find me.” Jude looked into her eyes and took a deep breath. “Can I walk you back to the dock?” The island they were on required a boat to the mainland to get to the airport, and Jude hoped he’d get to walk her there and have one last goodbye.

Cam was so nervous, but wrapping his arms around Jude, and hearing the pet name that he’d heard dozens of times but would never get tired of hearing, he could feel his heart rate calming down just a little. “I’m doing okay. Nervous, but okay. You? I didn’t really like leaving you like that the other night,” he replied, searching Jude’s eyes for the traces of fear and uncertainty he saw before they last parted.

Jude took a deep breath and rubbed Cam’s back for a moment before leaning back to look into Cam’s eyes. “I’m nervous,” Jude nodded in agreement. “Better than the other night.” After his talk with Lena, Jude felt a little weight lifted, but until he’d followed through with his proposal, he’d be nervous. “Cam -” Jude began, taking a deep breath. “These past two months with you have been so much more than I could have ever imagined. You’ve taught me so much, and you support me and my daughter and... it was really touching how open you were to having her around from so early on. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience here with you.” He looked into Cam’s eyes and said softly, “And I want you to know... every moment, every single thing I’ve said, has been genuine.”

She tried so hard to let his words comfort her, but they couldn’t this time. She heard everything he was saying, and somehow the words couldn’t reach her. Everything she felt in that moment was overwhelmed by the pain. Lena had made a promise to herself that she wouldn’t become the girl crying on national television, and yet here she was. Crying on national television. “I promise I won’t. If anything, you’ve taught me how to open up again,” she told him through her tears, keeping her fears to herself. Truthfully, Lena wasn’t sure if she’d ever love anyone the way she’d fallen for Jude. She wondered if she would be better off, going home and settling. She hated herself for wishing she’d stayed home, for wishing that she’d spent all this time in some safe marriage instead of taking a risk. She knew she didn’t mean it, that she was just hurting, but it was all she could do to cope. “I know, I know. You’ve been so good to me, and I don’t want you to think that I would question any of that. Not for a second,” she insisted, reaching out to comfort him before stopping herself. It took everything she had to remember that they were done.

Lena was always so strong, so guarded, so put together, that seeing her cry was making Jude’s heart ache and his stomach sink. He sniffled and reached out to wipe a tear from her cheek. “Please, stay open to love, okay? Don’t let me ruin it for you. There is someone out there who is going to cross paths with you one day and this... you and me... it’ll feel like nothing compared to that. And I know it doesn’t sound possible at all but just stay open to it okay?” Jude asked - pleaded. “You deserve a lot more than to spend your life alone.” He flinched when she reached out and then stopped herself. “No, come here,” he said softly, not even caring that her makeup might stain his shirt. “Lena, I’m so sorry,” he said, pulling her into one last hug, holding her protectively to his chest, rubbing her back. “Thank you for an amazing two months,” he whispered. “And I understand if you don’t want to, or if it’s too hard, but... some day I’d really love it if we could be friends. Even if we’re just those lame Facebook friends who just watch each other’s lives pass by. I really do care about you. I want to see you continue to succeed, if you’ll let me.”

Her initial reaction to his words was hurt. She was so incredibly hurt that she couldn’t keep the tears from filling her eyes, but she tried to hold on for Jude’s sake. Lena knew it couldn’t be easy on him, and the last thing she wanted was to cause unnecessary pain. As much as it hurt to know that the life she’d wanted so desperately to spend with him wasn’t going to be a reality, she wasn’t surprised. “I… I understand. I don’t want you to worry about me. I’m not going to make this hard, I’m not going to be angry. I can’t do that,” Her words rang true - she didn’t feel angry at all, just hurt. It was such a struggle to keep composed that she just couldn’t do it at the same time that she spoke. Her voice was thick with emotion, and she wished that she could be okay, but she wasn’t. “I can’t pretend that it doesn’t hurt, that I’m honestly not sure of what’s going to happen next, but I just want you to be happy. You’re following your heart, and that’s all I want for you,” she told him, her voice growing quiet as she tried to tell him everything she needed to before it was over.

Jude watched the pain and sadness filling her eyes and it made his breath stop for a moment because he’d caused that. Jude had never wanted to hurt anyone, never thought in a million years he’d be so attached to two different people but he’d done just that, and now here he was, breaking Lena’s heart. It was clear that she was trying to be strong but he didn’t want her to be. He wanted her to let it out, to let him help her one more time. “I’m so sorry,” he breathed, his voice cracking. “I want you to be happy, too,” Jude said sadly. “I want you to be happy and to not close yourself off to love because of me. Because god, I want that for you so bad. I want to see you happy and building a life with someone and creating a family with them. You deserve a big, loving family and so much more than I’m ever going to be able to give you.” Jude looked into Lena’s eyes and said softly, “Everything we’ve shared, everything I’ve told you... that was all genuine. Every step of the way I was honest with you. I want you to know that.” He sniffled; this moment was so, so difficult.

“Thank you, really. You know I loved getting to meet her. It meant so much to me that you trusted me enough to introduce me to your daughter. I know how important she is in your life, and I really appreciated the opportunity to meet her,” Lena listened as Jude continued to say such wonderful things about her. It was touching, but she couldn’t help but feel as if it was the build-up to the end of their relationship. She was still so unsure that she couldn’t rush him, though. “Thank you, Jude. For everything,” Lena repeated, not trusting herself to say more just yet.

“Thank you,” Jude said kindly, so happy that Lena and Bee had gotten along. That’s part of what made this so incredibly difficult. Jude took another deep breath and looked down at their hands before he said, “And you are so strong that I know...” he coughed, hating that his emotions were bubbling up within him. “That I know you’re going to be able to...” The heat of the island was sweltering, closing in on him, and Jude hated how nervous he was getting. He knew that he was going to hurt Lena, and he was terrified of the look she’d have on her face when he said it. But he deserved to see it, he knew, so he looked up at her, his eyes glassy, his heart aching, and said, “I know you’re going to be able to make someone very happy one day. But... I don’t think that someone is going to be me.” He sniffled and didn’t cry, but looked very close to it, watching Lena’s expression, terrified of what would come next.

“I think it’s perfectly natural for you to be nervous,” Lena said comfortingly, trying to ease his anxiety while she was so unable to let go of her own. Her expression softened at his words, and she allowed her hands to relax in his. “It’s been an honor to know you, as well. You’ve been easy to trust, and I can’t thank you enough for that.”

Jude swallowed hard. lena was such a beautiful, loving woman, and she cared so much about his well-being. And he cared so much about hers. He worried, though, that together, they’d never focus on themselves, keep that balance. He took a deep breath. “And my daughter - she adores you. Bee thinks you’re beautiful and kind and fun... and she’s not wrong. You’re all of those things and so much more Lena. And like... life hasn’t handed you the easiest stuff to deal with and the fact that you’re this wonderful person, still, just blows my mind.” Jude looked into her eyes and squeezed her hands, smiling at that. Lena was such a strong woman. Jude idolized her for that. “You are so strong.”

“Thank you. I’m alright,” she replied softly, trying to keep her hands from shaking as he reached out to her. She couldn’t help but be nervous. Lena wasn’t really sure how to handle this whole situation - the competition aspect of it all seemed so strange to her even as the weeks came to an end. “How are you? It’s a big day,” she turned the discussion to his state of mind instead of hers.

Jude could feel the nervousness radiating off of Lena, especially as her hands shook in his own. He could see it in her expression, could tell by her gaze that she was scared. “I’m - alright. Nervous,” he confessed. Jude looked into Lena’s eyes and said, “These past two months... they’ve been some of the greatest in my life. And I can’t begin to thank you for opening up to me and trusting me. Getting to know you has been an absolute honor.” He smiled at her, albeit a bit nervously, and gave her hands a little squeeze, to try to reassure her to hold on just a little longer, to have this talk with him.

Lena didn’t think she could be any more nervous for this moment than she was. She had no idea what this day would bring, and the uncertainty terrified her. It felt so strange to reach the end after so many weeks had been spent on the show. No matter what happened, she’d be going home a very different person. Seeing Jude waiting there for her did nothing to help ease her nerves this time, but she offered him a small smile as she approached.

Jude’s heart hammered in his chest as he saw Lena walking up to him, looking as uncertain as he felt. He reached out for her right away, hoping to be of some comfort as they locked eyes. “Hey,” he said to her, leaning in for a big hug, kissing her on the cheek. “You look beautiful. How are you?” It had been just a few days since he’d seen her last but it felt like ages, and he was full of anxiety about the day ahead.

Cam didn’t really know what to feel at this point. One part of him was excited, hopeful even, but the other part of him was just filled with dread. The helicopter landed, and, after straightening out his dark blue suit one last time, he got out of the helicopter and walked towards the beach. Seeing Jude made him smile as much as it made him want to cry. This was it. Before he knew it, he was standing on the beach, ridiculously overdressed, and reaching out to hug Jude. “Hi there.”

Jude’s heart was hammering in his chest as he watched Cam approach him on the beach. He looked so handsome but it was also going to be an incredibly emotional day. He reached out for Cam right away and wrapped him up in a big, warm hug. “Hey, babe,” Jude said softly. He held onto Cam a little longer than was necessary and planted a kiss on his cheek as he leaned back to look into his eyes. “How are you doing?”

This was it. The moment this entire process had been leading up to. Jude stood nervously, wearing trousers and a white button down and a tie - everything but the suit jacket - and feeling so out of place on the beaches of the Maldives, dressed up so much. He took a deep breath. One person was going to show up to be broken up with, and the other for a proposal. Jude was as ready as he would ever be.

Jude hadn’t felt this nervous since hometowns, and it made since, because this was just as important - if not, more important, because now he was bringing Bee into this, along with his mom and brothers. All four of them had come to the Maldives from Arizona to meet the last two people Jude was dating: Cam and Lena.
