Nothing Is A Coincidence: Taejin and DNA
I seriously have my work cut out for me guys; we got a new BangtanTV episode where our boys went to the House of BTS pop-up store! And there were quite a number of significant Taejin moments present in the video, both subtle and a little more obvious. I’ll also be talking about a very common theory among Taejinnies! The entire video has me very excited, so let’s jump right into it, shall we?
Let’s get the little moments out of the way first before we start talking theories. The first one I want to talk about is how Taejin played make-believe, where Taehyung pretended he was a staff from the store and Jin acted as a customer!
I’m not a translator, but this is the general idea of the conversation Taejin were having based on translators I know and trust. How cute that Taehyung thought of pretending he was a staff member at the pop-up shop - and even cuter that Jin played along with what Taehyung wanted to do! Now that’s how you show support for someone you care about!
And we have another moment of domestic Taejin talking about buying tableware! I love how the first thing Jin did was ask Taehyung about the things he bought. This is just a small thing and I know there isn’t much significance in two members talking, but it’s still very cute to watch Taejin interacting. I love the simplicity of the moment.
Now that those cute moments are out of the way, we can move on to talking about more “intriguing” moments. The first one that caught my eye immediately is this one that I’ll show you a photo of:
Does it look familiar? Look closely!
I’m assuming this is an interactive piece where you can view the different sets from the DNA music video, as prior to Taehyung’s clip, the video showed Jimin looking at a different image that was also in the DNA music video. So have you figured out yet what set Taehyung was looking at?
If you noticed it, congratulations! You’re developing Taejinnie eyes. I was very surprised when I saw the set Taehyung was looking at, because I recognized it immediately and I had to check for myself. And I was right - Taehyung was looking at Jin’s DNA set! Though it could probably be a coincidence, or that Taehyung looked at all the sets available but they only included the clip of him checking out Jin’s, we should also consider the possibility that it might not be a coincidence at all - Taehyung specifically chose to look at Jin’s set. And this is where I start theorizing: considering this is the DNA music video set, it might not be a coincidence at all.
As with all my theory posts, I’m going to include a disclaimer: my theories are not actual facts, and you shouldn’t take it as such. Theories are merely possibilities of truth, and I won’t claim that the things I say in my theories are exactly what is going on in Taehyung and Jin’s minds. I’m just looking at things from an analytical point of view, so always give my theories the benefit of doubt.
Moving on - let’s talk about DNA. I’ve always had this thought that Taehyung and Jin are claiming DNA as “their” song, much like how Jimin and Jungkook constantly repeat between them the “I am you, you are me” lyric from Jimin’s solo Serendipity. This particular behavior Jikook has is very obvious between Jikook, but a lot more subtle with Taejin.
Let’s look back at when BTS were still performing DNA during their tour. Apart from So What, DNA is another song that gave birth to many Taejin moments, such as these:
So now that we’ve established how important DNA is in Taejin terms, lets revisit DNA’s lyrics, particularly this one from Jin:
Don’t worry, love
None of this is a coincidence
We’re totally different, baby
Because we’re the two who found our destiny
Coincidence plays a huge part in Taejin theories, because there are plenty of instances where Taejin does things that appear coincidental, only for them to prove that it isn’t because of consistency, and sometimes they even admit to it themselves. Let’s also look at the Taejin part of the bridge:
Don’t look back

Don’t regret it, baby
Because we’re forever
Forever
Although the lyric distribution probably has nothing to do with Taejin, the fact that Taejin turned DNA into something that produced moments onstage just like So What definitely means something. We can almost say that just like So What, DNA is a Taejin-certified song, haha!
My theory gets stronger once you realize what Taejin are wearing in this BTS episode, and it’ll also be a subject of discussion in this post. Let’s look first at what each member is wearing, before touching on Taejin:
Here we have Jimin sporting the MIC Drop shirt, and Namjoon is wearing the Boy With Luv hoodie.
As for Jungkook, he’s sporting the Fake Love hoodie (which is personally my own aesthetic - so much love!)
For Hobi, he’s wearing the Boy With Luv pullover (another personal fave - I have a very deep love for hoodies, sweatshirts and pullovers, so they just speak to me on a spiritual level).
Finally, we have Yoongi also wearing a piece from the Fake Love collection, and Jin, wearing -
Yes, Taejinnies, our Jinnie came to House of BTS wearing a DNA cardigan. You know who else was wearing something from the DNA collection?
Yes, you guessed it - our Taehyung! Instead of the cardigan, Taehyung was wearing the pullover (again, I love it for reasons I already stated).
If we recall the House of BTS photos the boys posted the day they went, we can recall that Jin was wearing the pink Boy With Luv jacket, not the DNA cardigan. So what happened? The answer is actually quite simple - Jin arrived at House of BTS wearing the DNA cardigan, as I’ve already shown you, removed it to try on the pink jacket, and left the place still wearing the pink jacket. You can rewatch the video to see what I’m referring to.
What does this mean, then? This is where I introduce the theory that many Taejinnies are firm about when it comes to Taejin - Taehyung and Jin wore matching outfits prior to arriving at House of BTS. Is it proof of the “couple clothing” theory Taejinnies subscribe to?
Taejin have a history of “twinning” when it comes to their outfits. There are plenty of occasions where they appeared to wear similar or matching things, and while it’s kind of an open secret that the boys do share clothes, none of them share clothes or match clothes as often as Jin and Taehyung. For reference, here are a few examples of Taejin in matching clothes:
During the Lotte Family Concert, the brooch on Jin’s tie matched the flower designs on Taehyung’s shirt. No other member had similar designs except the two of them.
For the Map of the Soul: Persona presscon, only Taejin were wearing the same shirt.
For their “Even If I Die, It’s You” performance, they shared what was supposed to be a set - Taehyung wore the pants, while Jin wore the coat.
And of course, the ever classic, truly, 100% matching Puma outfits Taejin wore to the airport. Is there really any way to explain this? Jin may have said they fought over who should be the one wearing the Puma coordinates but eventually settled with wearing the same thing, but what is the reason?
There are still plenty of other examples that I won’t mention because that would make this blog post too long. The point is, Taejin are no strangers to wearing “couple” outfits. They are probably the members who do it most often. And while Namjoon and Yoongi arguably have been spotted wearing the same clothes several times, it’s Taejin that wear similar outfits AT THE SAME TIME, which is an important detail to note.
The reason I brought up what the other members were wearing was to present a logical explanation as to why Taejin were probably wearing “matching” outfits. Despite them wearing the DNA collection, and I’ve already pointed out the importance of DNA when it comes to Taejin, they aren’t the only ones wearing “matching” outfits. If we follow this logic, then the other ones wearing matching outfits are Namjoon and Hobi (Boy With Luv) and Jungkook and Yoongi (Fake Love). Jimin is the only member without a partner, as he is sporting the MIC Drop shirt. Does this cancel out the possibility that this was a “couple” outfit for Taejin?
Maybe not. I’ve always wondered whether or not the consistent matching of Taejin’s outfits was intentional. They used to have stylists, but they also have some say in what they want to wear for some occasions. We all know Taehyung is fashion-savvy, so why would he ever want to look the same as another member of the group - unless it means something?
Back in Taejin Chronicles’ blog, they also mentioned Taejin’s habit of dressing similarly. They even posited a hypothesis that it was probably Taehyung who pushed for the couple outfits agenda, because Jin has a more carefree, unbothered style, and Taehyung is very particular about his clothes. So it would make sense if Taehyung was behind the couple outfits shtick.
However, Jin said something in the new BTS episode that leads me to believe that it might not actually be Taehyung behind the couple outfits, but Jin!
Why would I say that, you ask? This is what Jin said when it was his turn to talk about the items he picked up from their trip around the pop-up store:
Jin buying his parents matching items to use as couple items is a very sweet and thoughtful thing for a son to do, but there’s also something else we can infer from Jin’s statement. Jin acknowledging couple items and even providing his parents with that means that, contrary to what we thought before, Jin does care and is aware of the importance of matching items when it comes to couples. We always thought that Taehyung was the one controlling that aspect of whatever relationship Taejin may have, but Jin’s statement brings to the table a new possibility - what if it wasn’t Taehyung, but Jin who wanted to wear matching outfits?
Everything I’ve said so far only leads to one thing - Taejin are not fans of coincidence. Their choices when it comes to each other and their connection shows that these decisions are consciously made, far from the principle of coincidence. Indeed, Taejin are living up to the DNA reference: none of this is a coincidence!
So that’s it for this post! There was a lot to unpack from such a short video, but I also think I was able to draw a lot of insights. Again, remember that these are just my theories. I am in no way saying this is real, as I have no idea what goes on behind the camera, and am not close to or related to Taehyung or Jin to tell you this is 100% true. I am just drawing inferences from the behavior and information Taejin presents us with, and sharing what I think with you.
