I have this picture on my dresser, hard to believe it's from so long ago (8 years)! I've mentioned before how intimidated I was when I found out that I'd, indeed, be staying with "the beautiful one" for my first month-long study abroad experience in Russia. And yet, I learned that Anya was even more beautiful on the inside (generous, gracious, inclusive, adventurous, patient, hospitable, encouraging) and that she'd become a sister of mine in just 4 weeks time. She taught me how to do life in her country and she gave me a sure love for her people and her language and I will never be the same. I taught her how to smile like an American and she's thankfully gotten to experience life in the US as well... Happy birthday, my dear Russian sister - I always knew once wasn't enough, and I can't wait to see you next time. Я тебя люблю! 😘❤️🎉
