how did he get in here? that’s a very good question. “none of your beeswax!” mark shoots back, crossing his arms and glaring at the man. “why do you have attack birds? hmm?” see? he can ask stupid questions too. “put me down! i didn’t do anything to you!” mark swings his fists in every direction, only managing to twist himself on the end of his uniform fabric and leave himself panting. whew. too much work. he jabs a pointing finger up at the rude man. “i will bite you.”

"Just in case tiny, little men end up in my home by sheer chance. So that I can feed those tiny, little men to my birds," Murdock replies, and his tone is so stoic that it's hard to tell if he's being serious or not. He watches as Mark wears himself out in amusement, taking strides out of the hallway and into his living room, taking a seat on his sofa. Still dangling him over the floor.

He wiggles one gloved finger in front of the tiny man, a smirk on his face. "Sure. Feel free to bite me, if you want a mouthful of leather."

Being hugged by Mark is like being wrapped in a soft blanket. It’s not the tightest hug in the world, he isn’t usually lifted off his feet by it. But it leaves a comforting, spreading warmth behind that Charlie can think about for an hour after the hug had ended.

Mark doesn’t say anything when he’s suddenly wrapping Charlie up in his arms. Almost like he just knows the other needs it. Charlie lifts a hand to rest on his back, his fingers curling into his jumpsuit. He almost wishes he could crawl inside and hide there for a while.

Oops, wrong here. Wrong now.

Charlie ends up closing his eyes and letting his forehead rest against Mark’s shoulder. They sway a little together, and it’s nice.

He doesn’t want to let go.

But eventually duty calls. And Charlie holds on tight to that warmth, keeps it fresh in his mind as he returns to work.

And it helps.
