It's the Purveyor of Fine Food's birthday! Asterius trots up to Husband and hugs his legs, before backing up and presenting him with a shiny coin he found that he thinks would be suitable for such an occasion.

Murdock's sitting on the couch, reading a new book he'd just bought from the bookstore downtown, when he feels a fluffy warmth against his legs and glances up over the top to see the Minotaur child in front of him. He's unsure for a moment as to what he's doing until Asterius steps back and shows him the coin. His eyes light up behind his shades, before he reaches out and takes the coin from him, turning it over to look at it from every shiny angle.

"Thank you, Asterius," he says, albeit awkwardly, and reaches out to give the child a pat on the head.

Every single crow is wearing a little party hat. How this has been achieved without a single one falling off is a mystery. However, a pink moustached reporter, standing at the door with a box and black feathers in his hair was likely a good suspect. Wilford flashed a childish grin as he presented the box to Murdock. "A little birdie an' a Jim told me it's yer birthday! So I gotcha somethin' nice!" This was normally a cue for caution. Instead, when Murdock opened the box, he would discover a knife that was black as obsidian from handle to tip. The handle had an engraving that resembled a feather, while the blade had a good shine to it. (rosetintedgunman BIRTHDAY!!!)

It’s like Murdock blinked and suddenly Slasher had on a tiny party hat. Which is… technically what happened, but it still gives him plenty of whiplash. The bird doesn’t seem bothered by it at all, ducking his head down to start preening at his wings. And when Murdock looks outside, the crows all perching around his cabin have the same phenomenon.

He opens the door, about to snap at whoever’s bothering him, but a bit of that is put off when he catches sight of Wilford. He lets out a sigh that gives off the vibes of “oh, it’s just you” and crosses his arms, craning his neck to look up at him.

He raises a brow. As far as he’s aware, he hasn’t told anyone of his birthday. Before he can open his mouth to interrogate, there’s a box in his hands. He gives a suspicious glance up to Wilford, but ultimately decides to trust him enough to open the box. His trust is rewarded with an absolutely gorgeous knife that makes his eyes widen behind his shades, which he takes out to properly examine.

“She’s beautiful,” Murdock says, his voice just a tad breathless. “Thank you, Wilford.”

“Let me guess, I should ‘see the other guy’?” + [shower]

Charlie’s turned on the shower. That’s what Murdock can gather from where he’s sitting on his bed. Stripped of his turtleneck, he’s pretty much letting the blood run freely at this point. There’s a shocking amount of blood running down his chin to coat his chest, and he’d be impressed if it weren’t for how lightheaded he was.

“Jesus,” Charlie mumbles as he steps out of the bathroom to really see just how much Murdock’s bleeding from his nose alone. “Let me guess, I should ‘see the other guy’?”

“Can it,” Murdock mumbles, clearly not in the mood. Still doesn’t stop him from staring at himself in the mirror he’s got over his dresser, though. Like he’s admiring it all. He feels like a juicy grape that someone’s squished.

“C’mon, tough guy. Let’s get you in that shower,” Charlie says, hoisting Murdock up by his arm and guiding him into the bathroom.

The Accomplice should consider themselves lucky. Murdock doesn’t let anyone see him like this.

He's sitting on the closed lid of his bathroom's toilet. His turtleneck is off, revealing not only a myriad of scars, but also a gathering of nasty-looking bruises across his torso, the largest and most noticeable of which around a ring of bruises around his throat from getting choked out.

It's nasty. Even the Accomplice has to admit that.

Murdock thinks he's bruised a few ribs. It's hard to breathe, and each breath comes in sharp and painful. The Accomplice is silent as they work on icing his largest bruises. His knuckles are white as he grips the handle of the sink to steady himself.

"That's the last time I go after a target that big," he huffs, and they only laugh dryly. They wrap up the worst of his bruises and help him up. He leans against them quietly, resting his chin against their shoulder. He's vulnerable. They know that it scares him.

They support him with one arm and keep him steady as they lead him to the kitchen. He's been through a lot today, and as much as they want to tease him for his hubris, he's clearly not in the mood or the headspace to accept anything that they say.

Murdock glances up from where he's nursing a black eye and a broken nose over a glass of whiskey, squinting at the person who's decided to comment on his post-bar fight appearance. It's been a while since he's gotten into one of those, and he's really not in the mood for company.

"Yeah? I'll give you an inside tip, then - it hurts like a motherfucker," he replies, then turns back to sulking over his alcohol.

‘let me guess… i ‘should see the other guy’.’ Oliver looked vaguely worried, but mostly exasperated at his impromptu partner in crime.

"Precisely," Murdock replies with a click of his tongue, staring into the bathroom mirror to continue wiping blood off of his chin and lips. He could hold his own in a fight, but he didn't want to draw too much attention to himself. The bar was a safe place for him, after all, and he didn't want to ruin that.

His shades are perched on the top of his head as he moves to examine the bruise that's steadily forming under one of his bright red eyes. He grimaces, revealing that his teeth are stained red from blood. Impromptu murders weren't his favorite, but having an accomplice made things easier, if not riskier.

"C'mon. We'd better get out of here before anyone questions where that guy disappeared off to," he says, putting his shades back on before turning to make his way out of the bathroom. They still had to dump the body somewhere.

“It’ll look worse before it looks better.”

“Come on. Let’s get it wrapped up.”

“Do you want some painkillers?”

“Let me guess, I should ‘see the other guy’?”

“How’d you get a black eye?”

“I know you don’t do it on purpose, but I wish you’d stop coming home bruised.”

“I like the new look. It suits you.”

“Ouch, that looks like it hurts.”

“Talk to me.”

“You shouldn’t end up with bruises because you disagree with them. You know that, right?”

“Will you tell me how it happened?”

“Come and sit with me.”

ACTIONS

(send ‘+reverse’ to reverse the roles, or specify which muse is which!)

[sit] – sender comes and sits next to a bruised receiver. no words, just warmth.

[care] – sender provides physical care for receiver’s bruises (ice pack, wrapping them up, etc)

[shower] – sender takes one look at a bruised and bloody receiver, and goes to run them a shower. hot showers fix everything.

[offer] – sender has something they know receiver will want, and because receiver has had a bad enough day as it is, sender gives it to them. it’s the little things.

[stay] – sender offers receiver a place to stay, so that – wherever they got these bruises – they don’t have to go back.

[concussion] – sender checks receiver for a concussion, because it’s very possible receiver has one.

[home] – sender has no physical way of helping receiver out of this situation, but they offer out their hand anyway. just to hold onto (and to not let go).
