Rue walked up towards the tree and grabbed onto a groove in the bark as she began to hoist herself up towards the branches. It was harder to do with the extra weight of her snow jacket and snow boots but she managed. Rue was in the District Eleven park, farther off than most people went which was closer to the forest area. For the past couple of days the ally had allowed the winter cold to keep her indoors but that only made her feel cooped up. The cold couldn't be that bad after all. Rue pulled herself up onto a branch and looked up to the clear sky. It felt nice to be off the ground again.

Rue looked at the woman a few feet away from her with wide and curious eyes. She had seen her before somewhere. She knew it, even if she couldn’t remember exactly meeting or speaking to her before. It took a few seconds of the gears in Rue’s head turning before she came up with a plausible idea. Was that Annie Cresta? Without any more thought to the matter, Rue walked up to the woman and tapped her lightly. “A-are you Annie Cresta?”
Annie looked down at the young one with a smile playing across her full lips. This little one was from District eleven, that’s a lovely District, yes indeed. Very pretty too. “Yes, dear. I’m Annie Cresta.” She nods to her, clasping her hands in front of her, with pure elegance. “And you must be Rue? Am I right?” She asks with a smile.
Rue smiled as Annie confirmed what Rue had assumed. She knew that if she hadn’t gotten the answer to that question it would have bothered her all day. But then another though hit the small girl. Randomly coming up and asking someone who they were-especially someone who was a victor and probably got asked that a lot could have just been considered annoying or rude. And Rue hadn’t meant to be annoying or rude-not at all. ”Oh, I-I thought so. I uh, I just th-thought I recognized you..s-so I came to ask. Sorry i-if I bothered you.” The ally bit the inside of her cheek anxiously, hoping that apology would suffice. “Y-yes, I’m Rue.”
Annie patted the child on the head. “Dear, you don’t have to worry.” She beams a smile at her, assuring her that she’s just fine. Yes sometimes little ones can get on our nerves, but Rue was way too adorable to annoy or hurt anyone-well that’s what Annie thought. “Ah, it’s lovely to meet you Rue.” She smiled again, nodding softly. “Your parents must be so proud of you, little one.” She admits.
Rue smiled in return as Annie patted her head. She was glad that she hadn't annoyed her at all, she didn't want to seem like a nuisance. The small girl clasped her hands before her and twiddled her fingers absentmindedly, listening to Annie speak. Proud of her? Rue flushed at the compliment and smiled gratefully whilst moving her shoulders inward slightly. "Th-thank you," To be honest, Rue was surprised she had said that. She wasn't a victor, not like Annie was. "I-I'm sure that your family and friends a-are proud of you too."

Rue, who when you ask what she loves most in the world, replies, of all things, ‘Music.’

“Oh, h-hello,” Rue gave a small, shy smile towards the stranger and shifted on her feet uncomfortably. As meeting new people was always nerve wracking for her. Though this girl didn’t seem particularly threatening. “Who-who’re you?”
Her heart swelled at the look of the younger girl, and she knew exactly who this was. Rue. Her mother’s ally in the 74th Hunger Games. “I’m Saffra Mellark.”
The name Mellark surly caught Rue's attention. She knew that was Peeta's last name, this girl must be related to him in some way! It was odd that Rue had never heard of her though. "Are y-you Peeta's sister?" Rue asked, her eyes shining with new interest.

Ivy nodded, taking a sip if her tea, “It was a surprisingly loud one. There were actual presents and we all got along.” She smiled, “But after that it was quiet.” She turned to look at Rue, “What about your Christmas?”
“Loud?” Rue echoed. The girl turned to look back at the large house before turning back to Ivy. “H-How many o-of you are in there?” She asked. It looked like it would me more than enough room for Rue’s family to fit in there. It almost reminded her of a victor house. “Oh, m-my christmas w-was good. It snowed a-and we sang lots of christmas songs.”
“Uh, ten of us.” She nodded, “Wow, snow, snow is great. We got snow, but it seemed to have melted…” She huffed, “Which is sad, because I like snow.”
"Oh," Rue replied, thoughtfully. That seemed a little small for a community home but then again, maybe there were simply less orphans in the old world. They certainly seemed to have more resources. "Hm, sorry a-about your snow. Maybe it will snow again!" Rue said, with a hopeful smile. "Wh-where I come from snow is considered bad because i-it's not good for our crops. But I sorta like it anyway."

Sorry I'm not made of sugar, am I not sweet enough for you?
Is that why you always avoid me? That must be such an inconvenience to you,
Rue sang to herself happily as she perched on her branch as she plucked a peach from it's stem. Rue had been already been working in the orchards for a few hours but the she didn't really mind. It was nice outside and besides she didn't have anything better to do today. The girl plucked another fruit and put it in her bag when she heard the mockingjays pick up her song. Rue giggled before continuing on with her song.
Well...I'm just your problem, I'm just your problem
It's like I'm not even a person, am I?
I'm just your problem,
The mockingjays quickly picked up the next half and began to sing immediately after she had stopped. This was another reason she didn't mind staying at work for a bit, it was a good excuse to sing with her favorite animals in the world. Rue climbed up high and picked some more when she realized the air had gone still. They were waiting for her to keep going.
Well, I-I-I-I-I shouldn't have to justify myself to you,
I-I-I-I-I shouldn't have to prove anything to you,
Sorry that I exist, I forget what landed me on your blacklist
Rue smiled and giggled to herself as the birds around her began to eagerly sing along with her melody. It made the whole orchard ring with the sound of music. No, with all the songs she knew, work time wouldn't be boring at all.

Ivy nodded, "Yeah, I really like nature too. Trees tend to be much nicer then some people." She chuckles, "I'm Ivy. Its good to meet you Rue. Would you like to sit?" She gestures to the empty spot on the swing.
"I-it's nice to meet you too." Rue said with a smile in her usual quiet tone. This girl seemed very nice to Rue. Apparently people from New York were supposed to be rude, but Rue personally didn't find that to be the case. Everyone she had met here had been very kind to her. As the girl offered her a seat on the swing, Rue seemed surprised at first but responded with a glad. "Sure," It would be nice to sit down after all. The girl moved forward and hosted herself up beside Ivy. "So, did you guys c-celebrate Christmas here?" Rue asked as she kicked her legs.

“Uhm,” Rue looked around at her strange surroundings and frowned. Where was she? She didn’t know this part of Eleven if she was even still in District Eleven that is. “C-could you tell me where I am?” She asked, timidly, looking up at the girl with nervous eyes. “I uh, I th-think I’m lost.”
Ivy smiled, “Yes, sure, kiddo. you’re in Northern New York. This big house is where I live, and all these trees around us go on for miles.” She rocked on the porch swing, holding a cup of tea in her hands. How did this young girl end up so lost and alone here, “Why are you alone, dear?”
New York. Of course. Rue had been to New York hundreds of times though she never quite was sure of how she ever got there or how she got back home. She usually ended up on some busy street though, never a calm place like this. Rue hadn’t even been aware that places like this existed in New York which is probably why she didn’t recognize it. It certainly was nice though, very serene. Rue’s eyes moved over to the house automatically as the girl mentioned it. The place was very big. She must be rich. “Oh. W-well thank you.” She replied, smiling politely. “Y-you’re house l-looks very pretty. I-is this entire place yours?” Rue asked, referring to the mass of land around them. When asked why she was alone Rue gave a dainty shrug. “I-I take a lot o-of walks alone, I guess.”
Ivy laughed, shaking her head, “I don’t even have a job. I just live here with a bunch of other people.” She smiled, “Though it is really pretty. I like it too.” Her smiled faded sightly, “Dear, you must take really long walks to wander out here.”
"O-oh, I see." Rue laughed lightly, embarrassed by her earlier question. She wanted to ask why the girl lived all the way out here with a bunch of other people-but remembering the community homes for orphans back in Eleven decided against it. If the girl had lost her parents she didn't want to bring it up. Loosing just one parent was a painful enough memory for her, she couldn't imagine loosing her dad as well. "I-I like the trees," Rue answered quickly. It sounded much better than saying 'I'm from the future, I don't know how I got here.' And besides it wasn't exactly a lie. "C-calm places-like this help me to think." She told her with a smile. "I-I'm Rue, by the way."
