Since I was born, My parents taught me to do everything independently, as long as I’m healthy. They’ve never spoiled me or give me something easily unless I work hard to get it. I live in Bogor, a small hectic town in west java, 60km from Jakarta, raised by middle class family, studied at government school, hang out with variety of people, & grow up with them as my teacher in mylife.
My parents worked in government office and now they’re retired. They live from monthly retirement salary. I wanna say that my parents are very well educated, and I am proud of them that they spent their life serving society as government employees. My Dad has civil engineering background while my mom in animal husbandry backround. They work 8-5 everyday in weekdays, sometimes more, not to mention of how long they commute to their workplace, we only have quality time during weekends. It’s a routine that we keep in mind in our entire life “Working-weekend-working-weekend”, doing something that maybe my parents dont even love, but they were sincerely carry out their role in society and for their children.
One thing I know for sure, They dont love their job. I heard complaint everyday about their stupid coworkers, traffic jam, and yeaah something else chaotic but i can say that their complaints are normal issues that we always face around. We live a simple happy life in Bogor, although my parents might not doing the job we love the most for living. Nothing is wrong with my parents job.
now picture myself as an unhappy child working in project management company in design & construction industry. I am not happy with what i’m doing, but if you really dig deeper, this job Is very noble actually. How many people are willing to work as an engineer? A job that needs your full attention & supervision on a daily basis including weekend, far away from hometown, willing to get used with MEP and civil works, demolition, piping installation, brickworks, pressure test, abcdefg installation, all the dirty works on site, you name it. As an engineer, a girl, single, have to maintain good communication with all levels, including mamang2 tukang, It’s a very tough job with all the high risk inside. I’m quite upset about the fact that Our dedication for society is underated and unseen.
Despite of being engineer is hard, doesnt mean i should give up this job to do what I love, like being a musician. Dont forget that since I started a band in 2005 until now, I’m still an amateur musician. Though I think i can write good songs better than certain well known musicians, but still, in a reality, good songs are very underated too. I dont understand what makes it commercial or high selling. As long as I know, a star is born, not trained. It’s a specific role in life and Its not anybodys fault if we cant success in music no matter how good we are. That is the information I learned from somebody’s history in wikipedia, from reading their biography, success story, including their personal life. I think We cant force any role in life, i believe that a role is a Godsend, and I do believe that even a star love what theyre doing, They are still cannot be separated from obstacle during their careers.
I still play music, though. It keeps me motivated because I have fun things to do other than my sickening job. Music as my escape. I am free to create whatever I want, I love my bandmates, and I love singing. By the way... all my bandmates are working class, Ahong works as a graphic designer, Galuh works as a IT programmer, Dandi works as a factory worker, and Dodi as a guitar teacher. For us, Work is shite. We love being musicians, tho it’s not our job of where we get the money mainly. For us, working is a reality that we must face to have a good quality of life, with goals of making good impact by running our roles in society. Sometimes the job makes us frustated, but it pays our bills. Nothing is wrong with that. The only wrong thing we do is when we are troubling other people. That is It! Haha
Tho we always hate monday, We always love weekends. My daily Complaining is normal. In case you cannot get it, that because you have never experienced it, especially if you live in world tourist destination city and raised by high status fam. What we see beautiful is wisdom, we are not insterested in the luxury you display in social media, we are not interested in your perspective of how we should live because you havent dig deeper about your own society. We are starving of beauty, but dont tell us what to do unless you dont want to be called a simple minded. You must dig deeper why before you judge. ‘Do what you love’ for living you said, I think loving someting doesnt mean not to be realistic.
My Biggest respect for jason ranti, bob dylan, and iwan fals, for being neutral by speaking the truth through their songs.
