Taurus female: The Ideal
Principle:
The feminine principle. The second zodiacal precept of Taurus is the counterpoint to Aries’s masculine principle. Here objectivity is replaced by subjectivity. Venus calls for passivity and receptivity in the Taurean, who takes life in rather than aggressively attacks it. Through the energy of desire and the allure that comes from the cultivation of self-Taurus invokes the rule of attraction. Doing so however, she invites her fair share of snakes in the grass.
Planetary symbol:
The glyph of Venus - circle of spirit above the cross of matter - represents the unseen spiritual, and indeed sensual, content over physical form. Called the mirror of Aphrodite, it points to a certain vanity and subjective view of self. The symbol’s cross recalls a hymen, suggesting the virgin aspect of Earth. The glyph’s outstretched “arms” are an invitation to union.
Sign Quadrant:
The zodiacal quadrants correspond to metaphysical planes of existence- physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. The first quadrant is that of the self and individual awareness. Whereas Aries is focused on outward action, taurus is steeped in incoming sensations and focused on a quality of life and personal attributes. Taurus woman seeks to cultivate her many charms in a life long pursuit of an increasing sense of value and self-esteem. her motto “i have” might easily be followed by the phrase “the best womankind can offer”.
Sign glyph:
The taurean emblem, the head and horns of the bull, signifies the inherent power of response. It is the same as the symbol of the Egyptian goddess Isis, who, like eve and Io, is a deified embodiment of feminine nature.
Element+Quality:
The earth element connotes substance, materiality, and content. The fixed quality signifies a need for stability, comfort, focus, and cultivation. Together the fixed-earth combination particular to Taurus is best illustrated as a garden, like Eden, or the flora therin. Any grove, glade, or temple could be considered a sacred Taurean space.
Polarity:
Females in feminine (earth, water) signs are aligned with the gender polarity of the sign and embody the quality-element combination of the sign. Taurus woman envisions herself as her best possession, a substantial focus as befits the fixed-earth status of her sign.
Sign Number: 2
A feminine number of unity and sympathy. In the cabala, this number signifies the blending of male and female. Ancient teachings saw Eve as half of the primordial androgyne with Adam, united in one soul-body before being torn apart by the consciousness of duality.
Single Age Association: 7-14
The age of nubility: The sign of Taurus is associated with this period when a female blossoms from a child into a young woman. This transformation is metaphorically applicable to the taurean all her life, as her life lesson focus on what it means to fulfill her role as a woman of substance.
Psychology:
Vanity is rampant among taurean women. She tends to overpersonalize experience, failing in objectivity. she can be too concerned with appearances and thus have difficulty with aging. taurus may struggle with low self-esteem. She may also put too much emphasis on material concerns, being greedy for and miserly with money. Eating disorders may also plague her.
Archetype+Myth:
Taurus woman is the living representative of the Virgin earth and the nubile nature goddesses (nymphs) who personify the natural energy of ancient groves, glades, and gardens where temptation arises. Nymphs are forever being chased and deflowered, just as Eve was courted by the serpent. The thematic dilemma for the Taurean archetype lies in a polarized vision of womanhood-relation to men versus responsibility to self and femalekind.
Bibble+Literature:
The sign of Taurus is likened to edenic bliss. the biblical prototype of the taurean female is Eve, who represents the female condition. eva is the virgin earth, the nubile aspect of Mary, whose salutation Ave anagramatically resverses the original sin of eating the apple. Snow White is taught a lesson by her mother, who gave her the poison apple, just as Hera (to whom apples are sacred) taught the snow-white heifer Io a thing or two. Joseph L. Mankiewicz’s screenplay for All About Eve, from Mary Orr’s short story “The Wisdom of Eve,” explores a presumed innocent taking the place of her powerful female role model.
