/ GOLDFINGER LOUNGE CHAIR /
A little bit ‘70’s and a lot of today, Goldfinger is the winning ticket that gives a Modernist vibe to the interiors. Pared down with geometry. The pitched seat and soft, button-tufted cushions make this rigorously minimal seat surprisingly cozy and comfy.
/ Late 18th century- Early 19th century Georgian era's interior design. Matching small floral motif of the upholstery and curtain fabric. Sets of Bergere and Fauteuil chairs with ball feet with waxed frames. Decorative details from the classical styles of ancient Greek and Roman Designs can be found. /
Sums up every stage a designer goes through.
/ Wishbone Chair / Wishbone Chair (1949), also known as the "Y" or "CH-24," which has been produced by the Danish firm Carl Hansen & Søn since 1950. The light, sculptural Wishbone Chair was exactly what the Hansen company was looking for to supplement the heavier forms that were popular at the time. The Wishbone was a challenging chair to make, as the steam-bent solid wood frame requirs perfect craftsmanship and an intimate knowledge of wood joinery. Today, the seat is still hand woven from paper cord, a durable material developed during WWII as a substitute for jute. Using the best natural materials, the sculptural Wishbone is made to last for generations and offers outstanding sitting comfort.
/ Inside Beetle House, the New Tim Burton–Themed Bar /
A new East Village bar called Beetle House has an “atmosphere and menu inspired by all things dark.“ Both the drinks and the food are named after some of Burton’s greatest hits like the rye-based cocktail called It’s Showtime (a Beetlejuice quote) and Sparky’s Minty Margarita (based on the dog in Frankenweenie), while most patrons should pick up on the more obvious references to big blockbuster remakes like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Alice in Wonderland (Cheshire Mac, anyone?).
The intimate space is dimly lit by hanging chandeliers and candelabras, surrounded by weird and random decor, like a hanging bookshelf with legs and surgical tools framed in a shadowbox. There are also over 100 Tim Burton-inspired fan art and memorabilia pieces to be found around the bar.

Liesbet Bussche is a street artist who wants to add a bit of class and a bit of proper jewelry accents to all the boring looking streets. She adds her whimsical touches like earring backs, half heart pendents and glowing chains.
The ongoing progress of the model I’m making of The National Museum of Colombo for the vernacular architectural model submission.
/ Neoclassical interior design / Another interior design style I like is the Neo classical style which arose during the 18th century. There are three main furniture types used in this style. Mirrors: Mirrors were a main thing used in the design. Venetian mirrors had changed little during the Neoclassical time, and ir still had several cartouches and were often gilded. However, the shape of girandole changed from being round to oblong. Console tables: Console tables were usually far plainer and more classical in style, with grand marble slabs and straight legs, which were often bulky and heavily decorated. Armchairs: Armchairs during the Neoclassical period made a return to the Baroque style, with its heavy and bulky straight legs and sculptural carvings giving it major effects.
/ THE RETAIL PROJECT // DESIGUAL /
As I went through the brief I thought to myself that it was going to be easy but it was not. As an interior designer, I took the project like a profession but may have skipped some parts due to stress. In class we were given a list of brands to pick from: ▪ Prada. ▪ Desigual. ▪ G-star raw. ▪ Camper shoes. ▪ Calvin Klein. I chose the brand Desigual. The lecturer showed a clip where people in their underwares were waiting near the Desigual store in order to get free clothes. When I saw it I thought, that is so weird yet a very different and unusual way to promote the brand. From there I got more curious to know more of the aspects of the this unique brand with a positive aim. Eventhough this was one major project it had many deliverables like: ▪ Development book of 45+ pages. ▪ 3D concept model. ▪ Architectural model. ▪ 2 A2 presentation boards consisting of rendered plan, section, external elevation, sketches and narratives. First things first, its important to understand the brand. I researched on Desigual, their aims, mission and visuals etc inorder to get a better understanding of the brand before jumping off to conclusions in designing the place right away. When chosing a concept for the store I made sure that it represented the brand and is also different yet eye-catching as its location was the Island Craft Building in Bambalapitya. With the first few reviews I freaked out as I did not have a concept idea. In the end I came up with "PECULIARITY" as my concept. Inspired by a Tim Burton movie, Miss Pregrine's home for peculiar children. After explaining my concept to the lecturer he really seemed to like the whole idea I had which meant that it was time to move to the next step: finishing the deliverables. During this project time came a vacation break of two weeks and I flew back home with my work. I kept debating with myself if I could finish this on time and that time I had confidence that I could finish it all, little did I know what would happen next. I worked on the DBook back at home and flew back after two weeks. One funny thing I found out while I was doing the DBook was that when I decided to add butterflies, I saw butterflies on Desigual's website when I visited it afterwards. Same thing happened when I decided to get parrots with botanicals. Later I saw an instagram post of Desigual promoting their new jacket with Parrots and botanicals. When designing a retail store I learned that there are so many things that had to be tought about. ▪ Ways to attract customers. ▪ Branding. ▪ The right materials. ▪ Furnitures. ▪ Cashiers. ▪ Fitting rooms. ▪ Window displays. ▪ customer sarisfaction. When I first looked at the brand the first things that came into my head that described the brand was white backgrounds and watercolours. I decided to use that on my DBook but then I though this is going to be common, I should do something else. So I changed it to black paper with more abstract. I included the patterns and prints they have on their unique outfits. Since my concept was "Peculiarity" everything has to be peculiar about the store. Unlike normal stores you step in and your feet would be on the floor but with my concept once you step into the store you would be stepping your feet on the cieling. Black and white checkered tiles would be on the cieling that would grab the attention of the customer to look up to find all the furnitures upside down. I believe that a store should not only be a place just to shop and go but also a place where one can feel confident in themselves or find themselves through the clothes or the interior of the store as well. Desigual's aim is to promote self confidence in people through their clothes. That was a main thing I had to keep in mind while designing the store. It is important that the aims and the motives of that brand should be visualized in the best way to the customers so that the customers will find the brand a positive brand. I changed the name of the 'fitting room' to 'Backstage'. The interior of it with a red carpet with black sliding curtain areas to change their outfits giving them the vibe to feel famous and special. With a few weeks left I managed to finish my DBook with 81 pages. I was not too happy with my 3D concept model but let it be as it was since it is the first time and also I did not have much time to make the scale of it bigger. As the deadline was approaching the more panicked I got. The two A2 boards were the ones that I was more worried about. I was afraid that I might do it wrong but at that point I just put what I can on it. I hand drew the renders (sections, floor plans and the elevations) and I coloured it with copic markers. I was really happy with how it came out. The A2 presentation boards was not quiet how I wanted it to be but I guess I can say I was happy with what I have done by staying up the whole night just to get all the deliverables completed and done on time. This was one of the most challanging projects I had so far. Model making was easy. Eventhough this had a lot of time till the deadline it needed a lot of work. However, this will be nothing compared to the projects that are ahead in the future and I take this as a start to prepare myself for the big projects that are waiting in the years ahead. With my hard work I managed to submit all my deliverables before the deadline one the 8th of May.
