“Rory,” Paris grabs her attention away from her pool of milk, “It’s loverboy.” She waves the phone in a taunting manner.

“What?” Rory questions despite knowing exactly who it is because who else could be loverboy?

Paris rolls her eyes, “It’s Jess. Do you want me to hang up?”

“No,” Rory quickly tells her as she takes the phone from Paris, “thanks.” Paris waves her off and returns to her loud ass exercising because she must have some mission to annoy Rory to death. “Hello?”

You know what one of my favorite details in one of my favorite episodes of Gilmore Girls is? In Dear Richard and Emily, when Lorelai can't fit in her coming out dress because she's (unknowingly) pregnant with Rory, after Emily assumes the dressmakers wrote down Lorelai's measurements incorrectly, she orders Lorelai to put on her sweatpants and run around the block. If Lorelai doesn't fit the societal standards set before her, Emily will change Lorelai until she conforms, because to Emily, this is how she can set her daughter up for a good life. Follow The Rules, and you'll be rewarded. Their relationship is that too-tight dress, and Lorelai sheds it so she can breathe. But what do we see, time and again, with Lorelai and Rory? Lorelai making and altering dresses for Rory. Rory doesn't need to fit societal expectations, because Lorelai will change or bend them for Rory, even if it means Rory never has to learn how to challenge them for herself. Both approaches have their drawbacks, but both women truly love their daughters--even if they don't always know the right way to love them.

jess mariano and rory gilmore are literally the SAME people at their core, just in opposite fonts. they MIRROR each other and are each other's TWIN FLAMES. that's exactly why they understand each other better than everyone else (asp herself said so). both are raised by teen moms and have deadbeat dads. yet, one is nurtured with love and care with a mom like lorelai. and the other is abandoned & ignored by a flaky mom like liz. both develop an immense love for reading regardless of whether it became kind of a coping mechanism. both exceed normal expectations of intelligence required for their age. hence, one goes above and beyond, strives for perfection with it, and craves validation while the other could not care less what people think and says "fuck it. rules don't matter anymore for me. i know stuff". one becomes stars hollow's princess, held onto a pedestal by everyone around her. the other becomes stars hollow's pariah, hated by every person he meets. both are under intense scrutiny by people where one is held to exceptionally high standards and the other is seen as "good for nothing". both of them break out of those respective moulds as soon as they become young adults. and both play a pivotal role in helping each other break out of those moulds and still be true to their inner selfs. I COULD WRITE AN ENTIRE TEN-PAGE ESSAY ON THE PARALLELS BETWEEN THEM....I REALLY COULD!

like in regards to writing? not yet, no :) i have a few wip in regards to literati right now in progress, and since english isn’t my native language writing is a bit rough and more time consuming to me than usual, so i’m taking my time with it and try not to stress myself out!
