so my job in public storage does a monthly bonus based on how many storage rentals you do per month. i am an assistant manager (AM) for my district which means i can be scheduled at any of the 19 stores in my district. and our bonus is is based on how many rentals a store has in a month ($9/rental for my area) and that pool of money is split among the different employees that worked at each location. store managers (SMs) who only work at one location get 65% of the pool and the other 35% is split between the AMs that get scheduled at that location.
quick math: the monthly pool of rentals for store x is $100. the SM gets $65 and the 4 AMs that worked at store x split $35. and if you were scheduled for longer at store x you get a larger percentage of that $35.
now i work at multiple store a month and have gotten anywhere between $50-$130 as my bonus depending on how busy my stores are.
that being said, the corporate people at my job have decided to do away with the monthly bonus system in favor of doing flat percentage pay increases based on employment position and market area. sick. sounds cool. these schmucks are hyping it up. now im not a fool, i know a few dollars raise for the insensitive pay is probably unrealistic. i currently am paid $17/hour and am guaranteed a 40 hour week. a 5% raise is $0.85. less than a whole dollar. i am not expecting a whole dollar raise but im figuring ill get close to that 5% mark, solely due to my average bonus amount for the past 6 months.
they gave me $0.56. 3.3% of my current pay.
do not get me wrong, i am happy to be making more money. but this is nowhere near how much i was making with the monthly bonus system.
math time: $0.56 is $22.40 per paycheck and $44.80 per month. my lowest monthly bonus was $53.24. my raise???? is $8.44 LESS than my LOWEST bonus pay.
moral of the story is talk about your pay. to you coworkers, your friends, your colleagues, everyone
