pride month psa from a librarian!

if your local public library celebrates pride month, let them know you support that. if they've posted a picture of their display on social media, leave a like or a comment. if you see it in person, leave a comment card. if there's a program, even if you can't attend it, find some way to contact the library director to say you think it's great they're having something.

people protest pride in all kinds of ways. they don't want queer books where people can find them. community support where library leadership can see it makes all the difference. be as vocal as you can.

your library may have a physical box with paper cards to write feedback and suggestions on! mine has them at several locations around the building. you can provide as much or as little personal detail as you like.

the cards get shared with managers and the director, which is part of the point of my post—not just to encourage library workers in the good fight, though that's good too, but to show your community that you're here and you want this.

additionally: if your library does NOT do pride displays, ASK THEM TO! ask your friends to ask them to! it really does come down to metrics a lot of times, and the only thing conservatives have going for them is that they're usually louder and more annoying.
