Above the clouds.
During my early thirties, I had never been to a concert. I can’t say exactly why — maybe it was a lack of opportunity, or perhaps because there are only a few artists I truly admire, the kind of admiration that goes beyond simply “enjoying their music.”
Hyde and L’Arc~en~Ciel have been part of my life since my early teens — back when I first discovered the otaku world and fell in love with everything that came from the other side of the globe. Since then, Hyde’s voice has always been like a quiet soundtrack in the background, a source of comfort, a constant presence.
So when I found out he would be performing in Brazil, I didn’t think twice. It was a rare chance, almost unthinkable — after all, he lives and performs thousands of kilometers away from here. There was no way I could let that opportunity slip by.
The detail is that, on the day of the show, it had only been 48 hours since I had undergone surgery to remove a kidney stone and had a double J stent placed. Between the discomfort and the medical advice to avoid exertion, I knew it wouldn’t be easy.
But I went anyway. And it was worth every second. The show was incredible, almost magical. I was so close to him — to the man who, without even knowing it, had been the soundtrack to so many moments of my life. That day will stay with me as a luminous memory, one of those you revisit from time to time just to smile again.
Note: as you can see, I barely took any photos — I wanted to live every single second of the show.
