@just--blaze
He had almost gotten her on that one, he could tell, almost broken that wall that held her down, but not quite. Still, of all the people he’d met so far, Blaze was one of the more laid back. She’d given him the fact and all he needed to worry about, but here they were, sharing cigarettes as they broke the rules, no one the wiser for it. If they had been anywhere else, he would’ve taken one look at the girl and asked her to go for a drink with him; her air of resistance to the whole order of things made her even more attractive as did the way she bit her lip. Still, this place was new and he was still getting his footing so despite the fact that she was attractive, he just took in the calmness between the two of them and spoke with her as if they were friends. “I probably will…at least one or two, just to test things out, but I’ll try and be…on my best behavior…maybe…I guess I’ll see what kind of behavior I can muster,” he chuckled.
Talking to someone in her situation who wasn't broken by the circumstances was extremely refreshing. Too many of the humans here just let the supers walk all over them and it was extremely frustrating to talk with them. Blaze just couldn't comprehend why anyone would stop fighting. Didn't it make them furious? She was fueled by anger and hatred but it seemed like the others didn't have the same reserve of those two emotions to resist for long. He, unlike the others, had promise and she was more than happy to see that. Perhaps that was why it was so easy to smile around him...That sort of thing was something she kept for a very small number of people. "Usually what I find with them is if the first they they say to me is a demand, things don't end well." Blaze said with a shrug and a small smile before putting the cigarette back to her lips. "Don't think I've behaved for anyone like that actually. Not unless they got into my mind and really, that doesn't count."
"Just to lull them into a false sense of security anyway," he said with a wink to her, taking in a breath of his cigarette. She had it in her, the defiance, the fight. He could see it glimmering there just under the surface. She’d been through hell, he could see that, but she wasn’t completely broken, not yet. He nodded at all the things that could get them in trouble. He was going to be in so much shit. Oh, I’m going to get it. "Well that sounds like the list of my personal traits so this is going to be something," he said with a shrug.
The wink made her smile a little before she could catch it and she just nodded. He was so laid back that it was almost...calming. His life must have been bad before to be like this so soon after finding out where he was. She too had adjusted quickly, though she had been extremely resentful for weeks, speaking to no one and snapping at those who did. He would fight but most likely he'd have an easier time of it if he acted like this with some of the supers as well. She blew out some smoke as he spoke and laughed quietly, nodding. "You'll get into trouble. I still do and I've been here a while. Sometimes it's not so bad but...Dunno, don't piss off certain ones on purpose." She tugged her lower lip between her teeth, worrying it as she looked at him distractedly.
"More than boring, it’s just a start." She still thought it was a privilege to be bored there if it meant nothing was going on instead of something horrible. But it was an easy, basic way to describe the cells. The best they could be was boring. Her point still went, though; there was no reason to want to be in them. "Not quite, but I saw my parents, anyway…" Looking back on it, she’d have enjoyed it much more if it’d been her real home and not some sweltering town in Florida she’d never seen before. But who else in her situation could say they’d been off the island at all? "Oh, yeah— guess you would probably have to be claimed first. But it could happen soon, hm?" At least Blaze knew the option was there if the vampire ever made things permanent. "What job?" she frowned. Why did someone living there have a job somewhere else?
"Better than having one of them in your cell I guess. Still, it drives me crazy having nothing at all to do." Blaze said with a sigh. She was due back soon and thinking about it was just making the idea worse. "Well at least there was that. I'd take anything at this point." She smiled a little, sadly, though she knew that staying on the island with Garret was better than ever returning home. "Dunno. I try not to think about it too much. They go wrong for me to often. I hope so but...you know how it is." Then again, maybe Georgia didn't with how many times she had actually been claimed. Even a short claim would have been better than waiting for one that would never happen. "I think he organizes events on the mainland. I don't know much about it but he goes back every so often for that."
"I spent five years in France learning to cook. Then a year in New Orleans. I can cook anything because everything is my specialty." He grinned, wrapping the towel around his hips as he walked into the bedroom and changed into a pair of sweats. "I can make you anything your heart desires."
Blaze followed him out to the bedroom, watching him dress from the corner of her eye before finding herself a set of his clothes. They were obviously too big but always comfortable and he seemed to like seeing her in them. She pulled the shirt on as he spoke, considering his words. "Anything? That's a big promise." she teased. "How about some fancy French crepes?" She didn't want anything big since she was leaving the next day and the leftovers would just be thrown out.
"I guess I’ll just have to meet them then, get to know them…or be horrible and have them largely avoid me…either way," he said, divided. One part of him wanted the conflict, craved it as he craved so much, but there was a small part of him that knew better. It was bravado to think he could be the exception but he had to be fifty percent bravado and it had gotten him through scrapes in the past. Blaze though, had obviously been at this for awhile and she seemed tired by this point. He took the cigarette she offered with a hearty thanks and placed the familiar comfort against his lips, leaning in to catch the fire. "You’re a savior," he said, his interest catching with her smile. "So what else is against their rules?" He asked and then took in a long drag, savoring the taste of nicotine on his tongue.
"Depends on them in the end. You'll see, but hopefully in a good way." Blaze said with a shrug. She could tell that all he wanted to do was fight to get out and it made her like him all the more. Despite her current state, Blaze was still ready to resist or escape should the opportunity arise. There was really only one thing she could lose and she wasn't even sure if she still had it. Recklessness had always been her specialty and it only grew with time. He lit the cigarette and Blaze took one for herself, lighting it before tucking the small cylinder back into her shirt and inhaling deeply. "Lots of things. Talking back, fighting, escaping, trying to kill them. Sometimes they'll rent you and give you more rules specific to them. Not that it keeps me from doing any of them." she said with a humorless snort of laughter.
"Those are the worst people in general, whether they're holding you captive or not," he said. He'd always hated people who thought they were better for no particular reason than just they were who they were; now he was stuck on an island full of them. "That's the spirit at least, just got to keep going for them. I figure I'll just insult them and be lewd and gross until they send me back." It wouldn't be that simple judging by the looks of things, but they'd never met Bryan before. He at least wouldn't make it easy for them to break him. "So, got any tips for how to spot the nice ones that'll let me go? Maybe one of them will allow for a bit of football around here? Or maybe give me a cigarette?" His smile was cheeky admittedly but so was hers, a kindred smile that let Bryan know that Blaze was like him, a fighter.
"It's worse when you're here. They're already more powerful than you and for them to act it...Well, it's not pretty." she said, wrinkling her nose a little. Her mother had been like that and her father a little because of their wealth but Blaze had hated them so she resented that attitude. "I try. Sadly they don't care. I've been fighting them...eight months? Maybe more...Christ." she muttered, running a hand through her hair distractedly. Too long. "The nice ones usually ask you if you want anything. You can tell from their tone of voice." she said, pulling herself from her thoughts and looking back at him. The mention of cigarettes made her smile and she pulled her small stash from under the corner of her cot, offering him the pack before putting a hand down her shirt and taking out the lighter she had hidden away. "Technically we're not allowed to have these but I smuggle them down all the time. Help yourself." she said, returning his cheeky smile with one of her own.
"I'm going to find one who secretly wants to be a slave herself...not sure if one of those exists but till then, I figure I'll be their worst nightmare...sing too loudly and whatnot. Hell, maybe I'll be such a nuisance that they'll give me back," he joked. After all, once he saw her smile a bit, he figured he'd try for more, just a flicker more of laughter. "Either way though, what is being rented like?" He asked, a speck of curiosity in him even though he was determined to fight back when it was his turn. "And here I was planning for some group talk therapy," he said, another wry smile, creeping along his face.
"You'll have a tough time of that. A lot of them are stuck up, superior types." Blaze said, lifting her chin a little as if to demonstrate. "But I did consider the giving me back thing. Sadly no matter how many dicks I try to bite off, they just can't get enough of me." It was partially joking so she was smiling but it was the truth. Violence had no bounds here and that applied to her as well when she got the chance. "A rental is different according to each super. Some of them are very relaxing, where they leave you alone for the entire time. Those are my favorite. Others like to spend time with you but you're still free to move around. The worst are the abusive ones. They try to break you or use you for whatever they want." Her jaw tightened at the thought, remembering all the bad rentals and the supers who had caused them. His small joke made a flicker of a smile appear and she shrugged. "M'sure you can put that in the suggestion box if you really want it. They should get back to you never." she teased faintly.
"So I guess I’m stuck then," he said with a shrug and a wry smile. "I doubt any one of them is going to take a shine to a bruiser with a bad attitude. I’m just looking to find one that might bring me booze or maybe even some drugs." He ran a hand through his ruffled hair and looked up at the ceiling and then at the girl. He could tell that once upon a time she’d been like him, full of fight and vigor. Maybe that was part of why he wanted to fight even harder. "Any other ways…some hobbies or activities, like group swim. Don’t they let us get some group exercise?" He was jesting a bit now, but wasn’t that all he had left, a joke here and there so he wouldn’t despair.
Blaze's smile mirrored his own and she shook her head. "You'd be surprised. I can't even count the number of times I've cursed at them or attacked them but I still get rented by a couple good ones." Her last rental with Pippa had been extremely draining but she had fought the siren as hard as she could have so it gave her some peace of mind while she recovered. She had been through too much, aged too quickly. His next question made her laugh a little and she ran a hand through her hair as she spoke. "Nah, they'd never let us group up. I think they secretly like us to be pale and sickly and unattractive. Some weird fetish or something." It was as close to a joke as she could get. "They might let you out for a shower sometime but it's rare. The guards aren't exactly...friendly."
He gulped slightly, looking down with a sigh; she was right though and they couldn’t stockpile anything in these cells. “Fine, well…how do we get out of these cells, even for a little bit?” These creatures might be able to make him talk but that just meant he’d have to be careful, not that careful planning was exactly his forte; he’d always been something of a hot head, but either way, first he’d have to size up these supers as they called them.
"M'sorry." Blaze said, letting out a quiet breath at the words. She hated the look on his face, as if that hope had been dashed. Still, it was better for him to know now than to find out like she had and end up halfway to death. "If one of them likes you they can rent you, take you out for a week or so. It's not much but it's usually better than down here." she said with a shrug, watching him process everything. It looked like he was already thinking about what he could do and she couldn't help but smile faintly at that. It reminded her a lot of herself, how fiercly she had fought and searched for a way out.
"But there are ways to kill anything. There has to be something's that they're weak to...we'd just have to stock up. Maybe it'd take awhile to get all of us together and willing to fight but...but I'm not afraid," he said. He'd been through pain, been through what he'd thought was hell, but it had nothing on this. Still, it wasn't in his nature to give up. "There has to be a way to fight," he said.
"There are. I have an idea of what most of them need for you to kill them but...It's hard to get anything. M'not afraid of them either." Blaze said, still frowning. "It'd ljust ook really suspicious if you came down here with a stake, even more so if they start piling up. And...They can make you tell them anything." The thought of compulsion and siren songs made her shudder slightly before she turned her thoughts back to him. "Escape is definitely the best option but even that is difficult. They're just...They have a lot of power."
"But can’t you just…I don’t know…gather together, all of us who are trapped here…we could stake them…or whatever," he said, still processing the information in his head. The fact that they broke her leg, that they had gone to such lengths to keep her there, it didn’t make him scared, it made him angry. He could feel it going inside him, a burning sensation, a blaze that bit into his gut and shot through his veins. "There has got to be a way out," he said with a bite to his voice. He wouldn’t allow himself to get like that, bitter with no hope of finding his way out. He had to find a way out, not that he had anywhere to go when he got back.
"I thought about that too." Blaze said with a small, humorless smile. "Unfortunatly for us there are more than just vampires. The instant we try to get out they'd kill us or torture us." It sounded so awful when said out loud and Blaze blinked for a moment, her gaze unfocused as she tried to remember when she had become like this. She had been just like him, angry and hateful and looking for a way off, even if it meant death. "I still think about it though. Escaping, killing them. If you get to the beach maybe you could swim for it..." If he didn't mind dying of course. The water stretched for more miles than she could imagine. "I think its possible. Just very, very difficult. Not to mention risky." She frowned to herself before looking at him.
What was she talking about? Supernatural creatures? Bryan couldn’t believe his ears; he was even tempted to laugh but the look on the girl’s face told him that, even if these things weren’t supernatural, they were at least serious enough to have her convinced of their powers. Either way, they had been powerful and dangerous enough to capture them and put them in these cells. “Okay…” he said, drawing the word out as he tried to think of what to do next. He assumed he wasn’t the first to want to escape, but that didn’t stop his first instinct towards defiance. “Yeah…I’ll give you that it sounds a bit nuts, but…I don’t know. I did just get kidnapped and hauled into this cell to become some kind of slave so I’m thinking I might have to reevaluate my definition of crazy. Either way, I’m not staying trapped in this cell,” he said. He’d find something. He’d have to. He’d watched enough monster movies to know they could be killed, now he just had to figure out how.
It was a hard thing to hear but everyone she had ever told took it differently. Mostly they denied it all and demanded a phone call or a way out but he...He took it very differently. It was odd to see someone so calm despite the outlandish things she had just told him. It said something about his life before the island. "Trust me, I've tried to escape. Second week I was here I tried to run and they broke my arm and my leg. The only safety you'll get is if you make nice with one of them and they decide to claim you. Then you'll belong to them but if they're good it'll just mean that you live with them." The words were slightly bitter but Blaze couldn't help herself. She hated it here, hated their rules and superiority, and most of them knew that. "It's all beyond fucked up."
