A Deep Room Cleanse
The state of my room is extremely important to me. It’s a direct reflection of my mental health, so when it’s messy, my energy levels are low and I just feel yucky. There’s no way I’m getting any kind of work done, magical or mundane. When it feels good and clean to be in, it’s a lot easier to deal with my symptoms and be productive. You don’t have to do every step every time of course, but each step has helped me so I figured a list like this might help someone.
Change the lighting. Use natural sources of light (like pulling back the curtains and letting the sun in) over artificial ones. If you have salt lamps to turn on, those are still very nice. If you need artificial light to keep it from being too dark, try to prioritize light bulbs you like the color of, and ones that don’t whistle quietly when they’re on.
Change the airflow. Open a window, if you can. Often our rooms feel yucky because the air is stale. Get some fresh air moving. If it’s too cold, it’s okay to only keep it open for a few minutes or put on a coat while you work because you’re stubborn like me.
Change the sound. Put on your favorite cleansing music. Let it soak into the room. I tend to go or ambient spa stuff, or playlists that sound built for a rainy day. (Note: the music that helps you cleanse the best may not be the same as what you like the most. The playlist should keep you focused/uplifted while you work and reflect the vibes you want your room to have.)
Change the smell. Take out the trash, maybe refresh the sheets on your bed. Light a scented candle, some incense, heat up some oil, something to make your room smell distinctly different from the mucky-feeling room from before. (If your method of choice is something short like a room spray, I actually like doing it at the very end.)
Actually clean and organize. Nothing junks up the energy of a room more quicker than actual junk. Organize everything as much as you can (this might mean finally gutting your closet, even if you can close the door and hide it.) Wipe down any surfaces that need it, get everything fresh and functional again. Do some laundry while you work. If you have clothes or trinkets that are just collecting dust, extra points for purging them!
Cleanse any sacred spaces by themselves. A lot of us have altars or shrines in our rooms. A sacred space can also be just an extra important area of your room, like a reading nook. Make sure to give them extra attention! You don’t need to wipe the board energetically (and probably shouldn’t), but taking a little extra time to clean surfaces, straighten up, and make sure everything feels okay on them goes a long way.
Cleanse in your regular way. Bust out the herb bundles, the bells, the ribbons, the broom, whatever you usually do to cleanse a space! The room is SUPER primed for it now, most of the negative energy probably already feels removed if not broken down. A good once-over with your favorite cleansing method should finish it off nicely.
Refresh any wards or protections. Self explanatory. If you maintain energy borders in your room, now is a good time to check in on them and zhoosh them if needed. Keep the space clean for longer!
Practice self-care. Take a shower, a nap, eat some food, whatever you need. You’ve put in a lot of work and you deserve it.
"I wash my hands of you"
A spell? Kind of? Not really sure what to call this. It has sigil vibes but not quite.
Basically, it's for when you're angry at someone/about something. You can't focus on other tasks because you're still fuming. This is to get the thoughts and feelings off your chest and wash them away so you can move on.
What you need:
Pen or marker (don't pick something labeled "permanent")
Your hand (or other easily washable body part)
Soap (you can even use specific scents that represent positive feelings for you)
Running water
What you do:
Write those angry thoughts on your hand/body part. Focus on your anger and visualize the writing as a physical manifestation of it. You're transferring those feelings from your heart to your skin. Thoughts flow out of you in the form of ink.
It could be in sentences like "I hate what [name] said to me," or it could be individual words like "cheated" or "unfair." Whatever works for you.
Wash your hands/the body part you wrote on. Completely wash all the writing away. Visualize the anger being washed away and your mind becoming clear of it. The washing might dry out your skin, so you can put some lotion on afterwards and visualize this as soothing, peaceful energy replacing the anger you just washed away.

General Etiquette for Working with the Dead
These are some of the guidelines I follow when working with the dead:
When entering a graveyard, be sure to greet and leave something for the guardian of the graveyard.
Never walk on the graves of the deceased.
Never take anything out of the graveyard without permission of the guardian or a specific grave’s resident.
Never take items people have left for their loved ones off the graves.
Only gather graveyard dirt from the perimeter of the graveyard, never from the graves themselves.
Upon leaving the graveyard, say farewell to the dead you encountered, and the guardian.
Never force the dead to work for you, if they are unwilling or unable to aid you try again later or try another spirit.
Be mindful of the dead’s beliefs in life, not all will be friendly to those who practice magic.
Give the dead the same respect and thought that you yourself would wish to be given.
Obey your local laws and ordinances regarding the dead and graveyards/burial sites.

~A charm to remind someone of your love and strengthen love’s bond~
What you will need
A smooth river stone that fits in your hand
Thread, any color (i prefer red, white or pink)
A fine tip permanent marker (a color that will show up on the stone, silver if the stone is dark, black if the stone is light)
A few rose petals
Red candle
An incense that you associate with love (I used lavender)
What to do
1. Prepare yourself for the spellwork, however is necessary. Meditate, cleanse, ground, center etc.
2. Prepare your work space. Arrange your tools, candles, incense, herbs or other materials you use for your spell working.
3. Light the candle and incense, let the energy from them build for a minute before beginning.
4. Lay out two pieces of the string, as in the image below and say “Though far away, my love may be, Let her/him/them feel its warmth, like the light from the sun, touches the moon” and tie the two strings together at the center.
5. With the marker, write your names, a symbol or a short message on the stone, and say: “And now in ink our love is bound, never lost to one another, we are always found.”
6. Place the stone atop the strings, at the center and say, “From now on, forevermore, may our love, wield the strength of stone”
7. Place the rose petal(s) atop the writing, and say: “Let our love grow, as the does the rose, with thorns to protect it, and petals to bloom.”
8. Tie the strings around the bundle, making a bow with all four ends, and say “Let love continue to blossom between me and you.”
9.Clean up, and give the charm to your partner.
**Carry the charm with you, have your partner do the same, as a reminder of your bond. And if your partner is willing to partake in the creation of the charm with you, make two of them, one for each of you!**
BONUS
-I added the first crappy hand forged ring I made for my wife when we started dating to the one I gave her. It’s gotten a bit rusty over time, and I’ve replaced the rose petals a few times, but here’s the picture of it-
Good luck and happy casting witches!

Witchy Ingredient: Cicada Shells
Ah, cicadas. We tend to associate these little guys with the sounds of summertime, but have you ever considered that they could play a role in your witchcraft? These shells can be an incredibly useful component in spells and rituals, and best of all: they’re easy to find and absolutely free! As pictured, after collecting a few shells, I tend to keep the shells in a small sealed jar and grind up them into a fine powder for periodic use. Correspondences / Meanings:
‘shedding your old skin’
rebirth / renewal
transformation
personal change
death of the old
How to Obtain Cicada Shells: During the warmer months of your area, cicada shells can be commonly found outside on surfaces such as:
the base of a tree trunk
branches
sidewalks
fencing
wooden decks
Cicada shells would be extremely useful for spells and rituals that deal with the following: starting over, leaving the past behind, changing your habits, personal transformation, and initiating desired change.
Let’s Summon Autumn With Pie
source
So there was a post going around about pumpkin pie in two weeks and it being a summoning of autumn. And it got me thinking that we could do it for real. How fun would it be to have kitchen and hearth witches to be baking pumpkin pies all over the globe?
Any non-witches who want to join can simply bake a pumpkin pie and get excited for Halloween.
For those of us who practice kitchen and hearth witchery (and those who want to get into it) we can put all our intents and dreams for the coming season into the fall. And can also (if so inclined) try and work a little energy into bringing on some cooler temperatures (we’re melting here in the PNW, and there are wildfires running rampant everywhere).
Here’s my thought for dates: August 21-27 there will be a series of posts with recipes, and tips for practicing hearth/kitchen witchery. (if you’re interested in doing one of those posts, hit up my ask box with your idea!)
Then August 28 - September 6… We Bake!
Dates were chosen to coincide with the New Moon (a great time for intention setting!), and then working towards the final date on the Full Moon (see intentions manifest!)
(I couldn’t find a source for this image, please let me know if you have a proper source!)
[source for the pie image, as close as I can tell]
Who wants to do this again??
It was honestly SO much fun last year. I’d love to do this again :D
We’re doing it again lovelies! Be watching my blog for recipes all this week, and we’ll be baking “officially” on Sept 1. Just in time to go back to Hogwarts and bring on autumn!
A couple notes:
Literally any baking is fine. This is not a strict thing, this is a FUN thing, and that is the only rule, have fun!
Posting pictures and recipes yourself is awesome! Do tag me, I hope I will see lots.
If you have a recipe you’d like to share, the best way is to send it in as a submission | or post it your blog and message me the link. (My activity feed is a hot mess and between the reblogs, convos, and likes, it’s like 2k notes per day or now and super hit or miss if I see a mention - Is there a better way to sort that?)
Intention, intention, intention. Hearthcraft is all about intention. At the core it’s not aesthetics, taste, or anything else… it’s what is in your heart and on your mind as you do it.
Have fun!!
Let’s do this again! I’ve had fun doing this in the past.
August 30 - Sept 5, 2020 for the baking!
🍄 Things To Research As A Green Witch MASTERLIST
A green witch is typically a witch who specializes and focuses on natural materials and energies. They are often skilled herbalists and probably enjoys gardening. Like a lot. You might be a baby green witch or an experienced one. Maybe even an eclectic one, no matter what, all is welcome!
I am most certainly not entitled to knowing everything about green witches but I want to help out some people when stuck on not knowing what to research.
As always, enjoy!

✴️️ To Nullify a Spell ✴️️
sometimes spells just flop, and you want to redo them. but before you do that, you should nullify the first attempt, to prevent the first attempt creates conflicts with the second attempt of the spell.
⚫ TO NULLIFY ONE OF YOUR OWN SPELLS ⚫
WITH SPELL INGREDIENTS:
✴️️ gather the contents/ingredients of the spell you first cast it with
✴️️ separate the burnable and non-burning contents of the spell
✴️️ salt the burnable ingredients lightly (such as paper, herbs, etc)
✴️️ burn the ingredients, and cover the non-burning pieces with the ash.
✴️️ rinse the non-burning pieces clean and cleanse them.
WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL INGREDIENTS:
✴️️ gather as many of the same spell components as you used to cast it
✴️️ perform the spell backwards, speak any chants used backwards.
however, sometimes it isn’t a spell you cast, and things can get a little trickier. how do you nullify a spell you didn’t cast?
⚫ A SPELL YOU BELIEVE HAS BEEN CAST ON YOU ⚫
✴️️ gather a bowl of salt water and a black candle
✴️️ place the candle in the center of the bowl
✴️️ burn a hair of fingernail clipping of yours on the flame
✴️️ let the flame burn down until it is extinguished by the water
⚫ A CURSE YOU BELIEVE HAS BEEN CAST ON YOU ⚫
✴️️ make black salt but combining ash and salt
✴️️ burn it safely. ward and cleanse your area.
Lughnasadh Recipe: Cinnamon Braid Bread [x]
Ingredients
2 ¼ cups flour
½ tsp salt
¾ cup lukewarm milk
1 tbsp sugar
15 g fresh yeast (1 envelope active dry yeast)
1/8 cup (30 g) melted butter
1 egg yolk
Filling
¼ cup (50 g) softened butter
4 or 5 tbsp sugar
3 tsp cinnamon
3 tsp grounded almonds or macadamias, optional
Directions
In a medium bowl stir yeast with sugar. Stir in the milk and then add the egg yolk and melted butter.
In a large bowl whisk together the flour and salt. Pour the milk mixture over the dry ingredients and start kneading it until it pulls away from the edges of the bowl. Give the dough the shape of a ball. Sprinkle oil onto a clean bowl, place the dough and cover with plastic wrap. Let it rest for about 1 hour at room temperature until doubled in size.
While the dough rises, whisk together the butter with sugar and cinnamon for the filling. Set aside.
Preheat the oven to 400 F (200 C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
On a floured surface, using a rolling pin roll the dough to a rectangle of about 18x12 inches.
Spoon the cinnamon filling over top (keep about 1 tbsp of the filling for the end), spreading evenly, leaving a clean ½-inch border around the edges. Sprinkle the nuts over the cinnamon filling.
Roll up the dough and using a sharp knife, cut the log in half length-wise stopping ½ inch from one end to keep it together.
Twist the two pieces, keeping the open layers exposed so the cut ends remain on top..Pinch the ends together and form a wreath.
Transfer it to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the wreath with the left cinnamon filling.
Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown. For the last 10 minutes you can reduce the oven temperature to 180 C (350 F).
this is probably already asked but can i only use tarot to read for myself? would it still help me progress if like so? i don't really have anyone to read for as of the moment, as much as i would love to bc ppl around me are skeptics towards divination. i also try doing predictive readings for my surroundings from time to time. have a safe day! thanks for ur wisdom ✨🌌
Why It Is Crucial to Read Tarot for Someone Else
The Ace of Cups can predict a new romance or merely a new celebrity crush. If you went with the first meaning during your self-reading, but it was the second which manifested a week later, then technically, you are still correct. Because you predicted something new regarding your feelings. Tomayto, tomahto. It still works.
But if that reading had been for someone else, and you gave them hope for new love, when all they got instead was a new obsession to distract themselves from loneliness, then that person would be very disappointed. And your reading would be deemed entirely inaccurate.
When you read tarot for someone else, you stop relying on the flexibility of tarot’s meanings. Instead, you develop the confidence to make unambiguous predictions. And by doing that, you get to confirm if you actually have the ability to glimpse the future.
If there is no one in your life who deserves to be read for at the moment, then practice on fictional characters instead. I once asked how Game of Thrones would end. I pulled The Emperor upright and The Empress reversed. Jon lived. Dany died. Had it been the other way around, or had they both lived or died, then I would know that my skill needs honing.
Another option is to predict sports matches and elections. As with fictional deaths, the outcome is definite. Win or lose. Your correct declarations would give you confidence.
Having said all that, knowing how to read tarot for yourself is a rare skill that you must cherish. But to truly sharpen your ability, you must expand your territory.
This is a big one for a lot of readers! It can be really hard to just put the Tarot book down and start letting your intuition guide your readings. This info graphic is really short, but it gets to the heart of reading intuitively: It’s about 1) connecting your energy to that of your deck and 2) Letting the imagery and the story of the card guide your thoughts and interpretations. Don’t second guess yourself!
This can be a difficult skill to learn, so it’s helpful to really develop a good relationship with your intuition to start out with. Some quick tips to help you connect with your intuition are:
Meditate more often.
Journal, especially about your feelings, desires, etc.
Take a walk in nature or sit outside for awhile.
Pay attention to your dreams and consider keeping a dream journal.
Trust yourself! Listen if your gut tells you something.
I know these tips aren’t anything groundbreaking or unique but if you make a practice of doing these things regularly it can really help your connection with your intuition grow!
Remember, practice makes perfect!

As always, use your own judgement regarding your personal ethics and your skill level as a witch, before casting any spells. If anyone has anything else they wish to include, please feel free to add to this list, as it is by no means comprehensive! This is just some of what I was able to gather together for this.
I drew from a lot of sources for these and did my best to make sure they weren’t from any closed practices, but if they are and I missed that PLEASE let me know so I can either edit the post appropriately or remove it entirely. The same goes for if a post of yours was linked here and you wish to have it removed!
With that said, Black Lives Matter, and let’s cast some spells for them, witches.
Types of Spells & Basic Methods of Casting
Attracting - fill a small jar with honey and add a written statement of intent to the jar - seal and set the jar in direct sunlight to manifest your intent; stir your morning coffee or tea in a clockwise motion while focusing on the intent of what energies you wish to attract for the day; fill a jar with herbs and crystals that represent what you want to attract and add a statement of intent; charge a crystal and wear on your person to attract certain energies; create a sigil and either draw it on yourself or on paper and keep in your pocket; create a talisman, charge it, and wear it to attract various energies
Banishing - take an item that represents what you wish to banish and: throw it in the trash, flush it down the toilet, burn it, bury it, drown it; burn the item and sweep the ashes out the back door or bury them; carve the name of what you want to banish into a black candle and let it burn down completely; transmute negative energy into a stone (preferably a black stone like onyx) and throw it over the fence in your backyard (or whichever direction is south in reference to your home); stir your morning coffee or tea in a counter-clockwise motion while focusing on the intent of what energies you wish to banish for the day; using incense that is associated with banishing negative energy, walk around your space in a counter-clockwise motion with the lit incense in your hand
Binding & Sealing - wrap a string around a poppet or other representation of the target or item you wish to bind; put the poppet or other representation in a plastic bag filled with water and freeze it; place the item in a black box and seal it - store in a dark place or bury the box in your backyard; drip wax over the item
Blessing & Consecrating - anoint an object with holy or blessed water/oil; place the object in a dry bath of herbs or flowers that are known for blessing; pass the object through incense smoke that is associated with blessing
Cleansing - leave the item in the path of direct moon, sun, or starlight; place in a dry bath or herbs or flowers that are associated with cleansing; place the item in a bowl of sea salt; pass the item through incense smoke that is associated with cleansing; pass the item through running water; anoint the item with a cleansing oil or charged water; bury the item in soil for 3 days so it may be “reborn” when unearthed; place a cleansing crystal on top of or next to the item; hang a wind chime outside of your home to negate negative energies before they have the chance to enter your home; open doors and windows; physically clean your space
Cursing - fill a poppet with baneful herbs and crystals, seal it, and store in a black box; add baneful herbs and crystals to a jar with a piece of paper that states the target’s name or a description of them and seal it; create a poppet or other representation of the target and destroy it (commonly by burning); stab the poppet with pins and needles; curse an item and gift it to the target
Dreams & Sleep - fill a sachet with herbs associated with restful sleep and peaceful dreams and hang above your bed; place the sachet under your pillow; wash your bedsheets and sleep clothes with a few drops of lavender or chamomile essential oil; alternately, choose fabric softener that is lavender scented to wash your sheets or sleep clothes with; create a sigil for peaceful dreams or dream recall, charge under the light of the moon, and place it under your pillow before you go to sleep; drink mugwort, peppermint, or valerian root tea before bed for vivid, lucid dreams; drink chamomile tea before bed for restful sleep; drink lemon verbena (vervain) tea before bed for dreamless sleep; when bathing at night, create a sachet that matches your intent and place in the bath or shower
Glamours - anoint the containers of beauty and hair products with Pluto oil or moon water (for transformation and metamorphosis); leave the item you wish to cast a glamour on under the full moon; charge a talisman with the effect you wish to have on others and wear when you go out for the day; add Pluto oil and moon water to a bath for a full body glamour (write your intent with bath crayons on the tub or shower wall for an extra boost); create an energetic shield over yourself in which the outside mirrors what you want others to perceive of you
Goal & Wish Manifestation - write your intent on a bay leaf and burn it; turn your intent into a sigil and store it in a jar filled with herbs or other items that represent said intent; place a written description of your goal or wish in the center of a crystal grid using stones that are associated with manifestation and power; place a coin in moon water while focusing on your wish or goal (leave container under direct moonlight overnight so that it may charge); light a candle whose color matches your intent and while focusing on your goal or wish, blow out the candle
Personal Power & Effects - create or enchant a talisman that represents your intent, charge it, and wear it on your person; take a ritual bath filled with herbs that are associated with personal power; create a potion from herbs associated with power and drink in the morning
Warding - sprinkle a mixture of protective herbs around the perimeter of your home while walking clockwise; leave protective crystals at each corner of your space; hang a protective amulet above the door to your space; wear a protective amulet for personal protection; create a protective witch bottle and bury near your front door; plant herbs or flowers that are associated with protection outside at each corner of your home; draw a protective sigil or symbol on the outside of your front and back door with sun water; hang witch balls or a witch’s ladder near your front door; create an energetic shield and place over yourself, your loved ones, or your entire home
*Please be wary when drinking herbal mixtures and putting essential oils directly on the skin or on items that your skin may come in contact with*
