Here you have two people who've been abused as children, experiencing so much physical and emotional pain in their young lives, who know no different, who both grow and learn to love a child.

One cares for her as though she were his own, who swore he would protect and care for her, and, though not perfect, he wouldn't betray her for anything.

The other instead continues that cycle, choosing to traumatise her rather than protect. She hasn't learned how, she knows no other way, and it's costing her everything.

It's an incredibly powerful and important message that isn't voiced nearly enough. You can have all the love in the world, but it's no guarantee of safety or a healthy relationship. And it's certainly not an excuse.
