When there’s a maggot in your reed case 🙃
Imagine if there was tab for bassoon. What would that look like? Would it even be readable? There would probably be a few scholars who devoted their life to learning and writing it, losing all contact with loved ones and taking their bassoons as wives.
??
Has anyone actually ever spelled thesaurus right on the first try?
(Brief) History
The bassoon was preceded by the dulcian, which was carved from a single piece of wood. In the 1800′s, Martin Hotteterre probably invented the baroque bassoon, eventually superseding the dulcian as the bass wind instrument in orchestras. Now bassoons are mainly produced in Germany and France (most bassoons you see in North America are from Germany- they use the Heckel fingering system, which is just better, more widely produced, and cheaper)
