Imposter Syndrome (Poster)
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, imposter syndrome is a psychological condition that is characterized by persistent doubt concerning one's abilities or accomplishments accompanied by the fear of being exposed as a fraud despite evidence of one's ongoing success. Over my time as growing as a graphic designer and overall artist, I battled with overwhelming doubt. Despite my years of experience, education, and knowledge, I felt like a fraud next to my peers. I always felt that I was not good enough and would never advance in my career. I still battle with these emotions often. More often than I care to admit. To overcome these negative thoughts I have made it a goal to post my work. I hope in posting my work, I can reach out to those who feel the same and remind them that they are not alone.
I was inspired by a Youtube tutorial along with finding this photo of the model dressed as the Joker. I decided to use the photo of the young woman dressed as the Joker as the character is dressed like a clown yet also wearing a suit mirroring the feelings of being exposed as a fraud (or clown) in ones field or art.
Here is a link to the tutorial, along with the original photo.
