Poor Adam is getting absolutely savaged by some reviewers, to the point of cruelty. It’s like they have some deep, pent-up hatred of him and his music that they feel they must unleash on their readers. Hardly objective and incredibly unfair.

Not going to read reviews anymore. 😠

Yeah.  I really don’t get the vicious hate.  I mean, it’s ok not to like Mobile Orchestra, or TMS, or any of the music Adam produces.  If it’s not your thing, that’s fine.  Some of us may not approve of all of Adam’s musical choices, but we don’t make it so personal like that.

And reviewers...please move on from the Postal Service comparisons. USPS is done.  MOVE ON. It’s not Adam’s fault there’s only one PS album.  Besides, that attack is quite lame.

I wish that they could find people who could give it an objective review, or at the very least a non-bitter person living in present-day reality who could make logical opposing arguments about any flaws in MO.  That would be too much to ask for, wouldn’t it? :(

Mobile Orchestra is all about variety. In the past, I’ve set out to make albums that were designed to be a singular listening experience, flowing from track to track. This time around, the songs are like ten rabbit holes that go off in different directions. I had never approached a record like this. I wanted to clear the slate and forget what I knew in order to create a new experience. I spent two years working on it, and it had the time to grow in between every idea. That’s why there’s so much going on.

Not sure that I would agree that ATBAB was a “singular listening experience”, unless what he meant was that most of the tracks had a similar vibe. I think that he went in several different directions with that record - specifically “Kamikaze” and “Alligator Sky”.  Most of us probably went, “Whoa!” the first time we heard Adam’s vocal in “Kamikaze” and we liked it very much.  At least I did. :)

“Alligator Sky” - rap on an Owl City record! Tour holograms!  NEW THINGS!  Point being - there have been past rabbit holes for him, and I liked the result.

This all goes back to my theory that as fans, we get emotionally attached to a certain style of music that we believe is the true Owl City sound, but Adam is still experimenting, and hasn’t really decided its final direction yet.  Both things are ok, but we need to realize that all artists go through this process.  We love and support Adam because in addition to being a brilliant and talented artist, he’s a quality human being who we want to see succeed in life and in his career.

It’s ok to like old stuff.  It’s ok to like new stuff.  It’s not the end of the world if in these two years, you have moved on and found other artists you like better than Adam. But I suspect that if you stick around and watch Adam’s evolution, you won’t be sorry for making that decision.

I’m still with ya, adamyoungofficial, if you had any doubt about that. :)

So I met stevegoold this evening, and this happened. In addition to being an incredibly talented musician, he is also a very quality human being, and I am very honored to have met him tonight. I love people who love what they do, like this guy, because it really inspires me to find that thing I can be passionate about as well.

But I would rather have new Port Blue than new Sky Sailing.  Of course I would be happy with any new music from him, but Port Blue tho...I miss those tracks he used to post for us.

In case you're wondering how our favorite drummer is doing, he's absolutely killing it on the Sara Bareilles tour.  Saw her show Monday night and he was fantastic as usual.  I still haven't gotten to meet him in person, unfortunately.  Also, he owes me some sticks. ;)

This has never happened to me before - I heard an Owl City song in my local Belk department store.  Here's the surprise- it was The Technicolor Phase. Awesome, right?  I am such a bad Hoot Owl though, since I didn't remember the title in the first 30 seconds of it. ;)

If you haven't heard Maybe I'm Dreaming and all of its songs, please go right now and find it and listen to it.  Especially that song + Air Traffic. Magic, I tell ya.

So something weird just happened...

A moment of silence please / To ADAM

Port Blue is dead for now, according to Adam (in the FB chat).  This makes me very sad.  

Please re-think this, Adam.  I know you are extremely busy with the success of OC, but we love these instrumentals so much.  You know we do. Please don't let this be the end of Port Blue. Could you maybe leave the door open a crack and give us a tiny bit of hope that we may get some more Port Blue someday?

I'm glad you are having such awesome success with Owl City, but many of us love Port Blue just as much.  Don't abandon this project forever, ok?  That's all I'm asking.
