Confession Time:

I haven’t listened to any of Owl City’s new music. 

I haven’t listened to any of Owl City’s new music.  I’m not really sure why I haven’t yet.  I was beyond excited when he announced he would be putting more music out soon.

But every time a new song came out, I ignored and avoided it at all costs. That might sound very strange coming from a huge Owl City fan who even has an OC inspired URL.  So why have I been avoiding Adam and his music so much?  I think I am finally working through why. You see, when I was really down, and in a bad place, I always had music, more specifically Owl City music. It became kind of like a crutch for me, or a coping mechanism.   And here we are again, some years later. I’m in a bad place again, and Adam releases new music. SO, why not listen to it?  I feel like I was afraid of what to expect, I knew it would be wonderful and amazing, just like always.  But so many things have changed since I fell in love with Owl City. I have changed, and so has he.  I think what I was so afraid of was that I wouldn’t love his music like i used to.  I used to spend hours on end listening to Owl City. I was obsessed! But I was also trying to cope and escape reality. OC was all I blogged about for years. But, now, nothing.  I am afraid because, so many things have changed, so what if my feelings towards the music has changed too? What if I am no longer amazed by the glorious lyrics and enchanting music? What if I have changed so much I can no longer appreciate the incredible man that is Adam Young?  I know these are all ridiculous and hypothetical questions, but to me the answers could be terrifying and life altering.  You may think I am being dramatic, but you don’t understand that for many years Owl City was my life. If you have followed me since I started on Tumblr you would know that. It’s all I ever talked about and listened to.  So you can see why I would be so hesitant to jump back into the world and mind of Adam Young.  But I will do it, I will make that leap, because I owe it to Adam, and I owe it to myself.
