After the Rain
The roof sings of the beloved
Through a raindrop symphony song
A downpour of devotion
Sending our ears to the evening star
After the rain
Flares burst from beads of dew
Like the touch of your gossamer skin
Made thin by the affinity
Made strong by the fervor within

Richard Hescox, “First Contact.” When I wanted to include this artwork in my art collection, I reached out to the artist for more information on where it was first published and got a surprising answer: Never. Hescox created it as a sample for his portfolio in 1975.
My art collection has a nice clean version of it in my section about gunfights in space. So, today is the first time this one has appeared in print!
My book “Worlds Beyond Time: Sci-Fi Art of the 1970s” is out now, get it here!
And it’s now out in the UK as of today! Check over here for a list of the stores you can order it from!

The Right Word
Within the right word Lives a field of bright poppies Blanketed by a song of the swooner lark
And I know you hear it too
So say the word like silk For only two can sail up high On the whispering wings of serendipity It was the only word of the elementals Longer-lived than divine pride Stronger-still than god itself And I know you hear it too
