Let me rant for a bit pls. :D Pelle doesn’t simply kiss Dani here, does he? He gives her a promise and like a taste? Of what he could give her later? I mean just look at the way Pelle smiles even during the kiss and how he blinks happily at Dani after it. Also the way he steps towards her invading her personal space as though trying to press himself as close to her as the circumstances and limited time allow him to…

And let’s not forget Dani’s own reactions. After she gets crowned she’s lost and confused up until Pelle walks up to her - that’s when she smiles for the first time. And she definitely doesn’t just passively receive the kiss, despite her hands being down. She closes her eyes and readily returns it and even acts as though she didn’t want it to end so soon. Not to mention the flower in Dani’s crown that starts pulsing rapidly when he kisses her and slows down again once he releases her. Idc if I read too much into all of this, I’m too far gone…

Forgive me, Father, for I have been staring at Midsommar gifs again (thanks to the lovely @amy-amell​), and the reactions from Christian and Josh in this moment…

… are so telling. Neither of them share in the joke (which, unbeknownst to them, is not really a joke). It’s a moment solely between Pelle and Dani, where only the two of them are emotionally on the same page (or, well, Dani is naive of the true layers behind the joke, but still, they’re the only ones sharing in the humor). Like, not even a flicker of a smile from Josh or Christian!

And also, Pelle is the only one actually including Dani in the discussion underway. After Dani asks her question, Josh barely glances at her and just keeps taking notes like a good little student, focused on getting the information, which tickles me. Like, at this point he doesn’t know about the Ättestupa, so what is he writing, lol?? “Ask about what really happens after 72 later”??

And Christian. His reaction is the really noteworthy one, because he fully looks from Pelle to Dani and then back to Pelle, fully takes in the joke, remains totally unsmiling, and then rapidly moves the conversation along without Dani, as though she’d never spoken. Josh at least is distracted by note-taking, but Christian has nothing to prevent him from joining in the humor. He just… doesn’t connect to the emotion of the moment, in an even more egregious way than Josh.

God damn, the subtle performances in this film.

OMG, ALSO, for a split second, both Pelle and Christian are looking at Dani, and the contrast in their expressions is marked. Pelle is all warm flirtatiousness, and Christian is all blankness and emptiness. Anybody wanna grab that screenshot for me? iTunes doesn’t let me screenshot… 😬😬😬
