Jesse rolled his eyes with a trace of a smile that she only would’ve noticed with particular attentiveness. Although he was usually quite annoyed by Harmony’s insistence on making his life harder by throwing little , there was some little part of him that couldn’t help but find it amusing. “I didn’t suggest that you were, but the idea that you’d ever pass up an opportunity to show off, whether or not you’d been asked politely, is laughable.”
It was refreshing to hear her sing outside of rehearsal, when he had a million different critiques running through his mind and was therefore unable to really enjoy the performance. “It sounds good,” he finally said, punctuating the comment with a nod. When it came to coaching, he didn’t often give positive feedback beyond stating that it was time to move to the next song or section of the arrangement—not because the members of Vocal Adrenaline weren’t exceptionally talented, but because there was hardly time to waste stroking already sizable teenage egos. However, since they were not technically in their typical roles in that moment, it didn’t hurt.
Harmony caught that smile. It was the first one she could remember ever seeing from his lips, and it sort of drew her attention. Though she made that subtle, she couldn’t explain herself. “Again, not a show pony. Just enjoy performing. But...I mean, this wasn’t an actual performance. My singing and playing wasn’t meant for you. You just happened to walk in” She said simply, almost matter-of-factly.
“Thanks.” She said on an exhale, glancing over at him. She cocked her head curiously, trying to read him. He wasn’t one for many words when it came to getting personal, and he was definitely not on the clock at that moment. “So.” She stated, after an almost awkward silence. “I suppose I’ll entertain you, since you’re here. Requests?”
