THE ROAD TO SPLENDOR 花开锦绣 (2026) — You asked me before what kind of couple I wanted us to be. Just now, I figured it out. I want to pledge my life to you, not just to find a suitable partner to walk the road of splendor together. I also want to find someone I truly love, to quietly watch our days bloom.
THE ROAD TO SPLENDOR 花开锦绣 (2026)
Yeah they’re probably my OTP of the year.

Omg I want to cry I AM SO SAD FOR HIM BUT THIS IS SO FCKN GOOD 😭 😭 😭 he actually did it
Oh this has got to be some of my favorite dialogue in the drama so far and a testament to stellar writing -
Ngl, ever since ZL quit the salt smuggling life and especially after he joined the military I’ve been feeling incredibly frustrated with the constant obstacles, the corruption, the two steps forward and — let’s be honest — three steps back by this point. Hell, there have been many times when I hoped ZL would just say “fuck it” and disappear to go back to his old life. I have also been missing the days of him smuggling salt, being his carefree, go-with-the-flow self and have been mixed about the darker sides of him emerging.
This military arc has also had me thinking that Tingyun was incredibly naive when she backed Zhao Ling into a corner and put so much pressure on him to turn over a new leaf. I mean obviously she was, as she grew up in privilege. But if I’m being honest, a part of me would understand if ZL expressed frustration looking back in retrospect at how much more difficult his life is now than it was before. I would understand if ZL felt validated and justified when he initially resisted her romanticized ideals of building a good life from nothing.
I think this also highlights the question we all have been asking — Can good people could really, truly get ahead back then by just “doing the right thing” and not clawing their way over corpses to get to the top? I would say no, or at least, not with a crazy amount of determination with no guarantee of a brighter future. I believe that people who play by the rules are always at a disadvantage to people who don’t - especially when corrupt people hold the power and call the shots. What message is this drama going to ultimately portray? Probably that good people can get ahead by playing by the rules with patience and determination because hey- that’s the more hopeful and “healthy” message, right?
I’ve been feeling all of these things for many episodes now, and I love that the drama is bringing it to light showing intentionality about the feelings of anger and frustration it elicits in its viewers. Well done.
Ding Yuxi’s jawline now lives rent free in my brain
Very lovely. I’m still reeling a bit from Jing Xiu’s appearance and the strange development of his obsession with Tingyun, but I’m glad that ZL won the maze. The poor guy seems to be feeling more uncertain about everything after JX provoked him.
Hmm. Not sure about this development tbh. Is this an example of poor characterization and bad writing?
Why have this mf develop feelings for Tingyun after everything he orchestrated to completely destroy her life? Especially since he knows that Tingyun knows what he did to her??? I could almost understand if he didn’t know that she was aware of what he did, but they both know. What could possibly be going through this asshole’s brain??? It makes no sense to me whatsoever.
I really hope that this will be a hard lesson for Tingyun to learn that kindness isn’t always a good thing and that sometimes it’s okay to let motherfuckers die
