Reflections on my first year as an attending family medicine physician: Part 3
My panel is growing to reflect me
When I started, the practice was in a rough spot and didn't have enough providers to have their panels open. So I was treating existing patients off the wait-list, which was totally fine, but it felt like they were being assigned to me rather than choosing me as their provider for a certain reason.
With me, and a few other new providers starting, we opened up our panels at the beginning of the year and started taking new patients. Since then, I have gotten significantly more LGBTQIA+ patients who have seen my bio or heard about me from a friend or online, they're choosing to come see me. Plus it's great to be able to help out my community.
I also have a lot of menopausal folks who need treatment, people with chronic pain, and people who are hesitant to engage with the medical field.
Obviously my panel is varied and diverse, but it's interesting to reflect on how my day to day has changed in terms of who I'm seeing over the course of a year.
