OMG YES ANOTHER SOFT/BENEVOLENT SLEEP BELIEVER OKAY

I have a bit of a Yap about this so if you don’t wanna read it feel free to ignore BUT it is so refreshing to see people believe in a benevolent Sleep

So anyway I fully see Sleep as benevolent and caring toward the Vessels because like, why would you praise/worship/do the bidding of a god that abuses you right?

I believe that Sleep helped Vessel get out of the abusive relationship he was in personally. Like Vessel was trapped in this toxic dynamic and Sleep came to him (or he found Sleep) and Sleep was like, alright here’s what you gotta do to get out of this. And then Vessel did so, and dedicated the rest of his life/time to worshiping Sleep as a form of gratitude. Like I think Sleep gave Vessel the strength to fight, advocate for himself and say “no I’m not letting you walk all over me anymore” and leave whatever situation he was in. And I think songs like Euclid, Infinite Baths, Rain etc support that. Sleep gave Vessel the strength to not only leave, but to sing about his struggles and his pain, and not bury it or be ashamed of it. Because of Sleep’s help Vessel can now look back on everything he’s survived, see how far he’s come and say “I’m finally here and I’m not leaving”

So yeah those are my thoughts. I love your art and thanks for reading my ramblings ✨

yeah :DD i think sleep token discord server primed me to see sleep in a more gentle light. your take is really cool! i especially love the bit about abuse mentions in the (especially later) songs being in past tense!! i really like gethsemane because of it - gethsy is, for me, a moment of reminiscence over the past in a moment of weakness. but it's immediately followed by infinite baths, breaking the spiral of bad memories.

i dont even mean to whitewash sleep; i think It's done some bad stuff. i dont think joining Its cult was pleasant or volountary. i do think It might've taken advantage of vessel being vulnerable in an abusive, falling-apart relationship (and probably really fucking depressed if im being honest). i do, however, think It thought it was doing a good thing (like, taking an "injured" baby deer home. objectively a bad thing to do - you should've taken it to a wildlife rehab, or even left it alone, as it probably wasnt as hurt as you thought - but you didn't know any better.), and besides, It needed a vessel. the thing is i believe sleep realized It was hurting and scaring Its disciples pretty quickly and, even though It wasn't able to reverse all the damage (or safely let them go, for that matter - It took their faces, after all), It worked to get better out of the love that was there. It's a god - a very old and powerful one. It's not a human, and It wasn't socialized as one. It is cruel at times, but when a god is cruel, its more of a force of nature. i dont think anyone, even vessel, ever actually gets to know sleep. but i do believe It has love in It. and out of this love It attempts to do a thing near inconcievable to gods, the very thing that tore arcadia apart - change

it’s important for you to know that when I write, I imagine your token designs in my head doing the thing I’m writing to make sure it isn’t slop lol

I started imagining the scenes in my head like an anime or wtv when I first wrote my III x Vessel oneshot, and I don’t know why but they popped up in my head as your designs when I was running through and just. have not been anything else

your style is so inspiring :) you draw the tokens so pretty and soft and oughhh with so much personality and characterization and I love it a lot they’re all so so so beautiful
